I ordered this to check the DOT3 brake fluid in two vehicles, and an old unopened bottle of DOT3 brake fluid. One vehicle had its brake fluid changed 2 years ago. The other vehicle, I am not sure the last time it was performed. This brake fluid tester tested 4.0% for both vehicles, and the opened bottle of DOT3 brake fluid. Suspecting that the tester was not operating correctly, I bought a new bottle of DOT3 brake fluid to test. The tester also said the new fluid was 4.0% as well. The new fluid was just bottled and packaged by Lucas Oil in May 2024 (today is June 26, 2024).At this point, I have a tester that always says the brake fluid is 4.0% and needs to be replaced, even if the fluid is new, fresh out of the bottle. So, I request a replacement for this tester since clearly something is wrong with it.I received my replacement today. This replacement tester also claims that the DOT3 brake fluid in both vehicles are 4.0%, that the old bottle of DOT3 brake fluid is 4.0%, and that the new bottle (less than 1 week old) is 4.0%. I ran these testers 5+ times per fluid check. The result is *always* 4.0%.This product does not work. Now I have to figure out if I can even return/replace 2 defective products

Love the idea that this tester allows me to test several specified types of DOT brake fluid. This meter is far more accurate than the small pencil type brake fluid testers.

At first it measured old (in the reservoir) liquid at 3.7% , in the bottle (opened) at 2.7%, then poured that one and in the reservoir it measured 4%...opened a sealed bottle (never opened) and it measured 4% also...So either these type of electronic testers are all unreliable or/and the "measuring" of moisture on brake fluid is a scam!

First off.... I already know I'm too slow with changing out brake fluid but this lets me put some DATA to my laziness! :)Also I have a bunch of partially used cans of brake fluid that I'm pretty sure are too wet to use but this at least lets me check it before tossing it.Extremely easy to use even if you dont read the instructions. My two cans of DOT3 that had been opened both showed "4.0%" "X" (meaning bad!) when tested and I assume they're actually above that but the tester doesnt give the exact % once it's over a certain limit. The most interesting thing for me was that it has settings for 'generic' Dot3, Dot4, Dot5.1 fluid but then also has some specific settings for different brands/type.Most of mine weren't on the specific list but I happen to have some ATE DOT4 in a metal can that I opened 14 months ago and I was curious how it was holding up, as well as how it compared on both the generic and specific settings. It showed 0.0% when generic DOT4 was selectedand it showed 0.9% when ATE DOT4 was selected so I would say use the most specific settings possible if you can.Overall really pleased with this and it helped me get off my butt and do something about the WAY overdue fluid changes in a couple of my lesser used vehicles.

Used this on a old bottle of brake fluid dot 3 and it read as bad with 4% water. Opened a brand new Honda dot 3 brake fluid bottle and it read the same, bad at 4% water. Don’t recommend this.

I bought this item because I have a newer vehicle and I have noticed that the dealership will sometimes offer to flush a vehicle's brake fluid and put new in, but I don't think that they actually test the brake fluid to realistically see if it has too much moisture in it, but simply offers the service after a certain duration of time that you have the vehicle. But the way I see it is everything's gotten really expensive recently so why would you want to replace brake fluid unnecessarily because the service is not cheap and it's not the easiest task to do for a DIYer. The thing that most causes brake fluid to start failing is the level of moisture in it so if you test it then you will know for sure if you truly need to replace it for safety reasons. I bought this particular product because it seems to cover all bases and tests all forms of brake fluid. The product is very simple to use and it does work as it should as I tested multiple vehicles with it and found different levels of moisture in the brake fluid of those vehicles that would coincide with the age of the vehicles.
