Finally broke after having it for a little over a year. Maybe used it 4 times. The ratchet always kinda sucked like it was missing teeth but it eventually would get the job done. This last brake job the ratchet just gave up and the plates on it are bent. It works for the price but you won’t own this forever unless you never do brakes.

Very handy brake tool!

This tool needs three hands to use. It simply doesn’t work like you would expect a caliper tool to operate. You need three hands to make it function. Once you insert it into the caliper and use the ratchet…nothing happens..you must compress both sides of the tool with your fingers in order to make it work. Squeezing both sides, making sure the caliper is secure and then ratcheting is a ridiculous design. Why would you put your fingers between the arms of a compression tool and the sides of the caliper while trying to make it function? Also the so called magnetic plates that attach to use with larger calipers will fall off the moment you try to use them. Spend you money elsewhere!

I went from using c-clamps to using a piston compressor with a bunch of adapters.I happened to notice the "FIVE BANNANS" tool when ordering a different brake tool. My first thought was "that makes perfect sense!". It makes compressing pistons a breeze and makes compressing multiple pistons as easy as compressing one.

This tools works by pushing evenly on both sides of the caliper to retract the pistons. Be sure to read the guide or review the video. You will need to assist the tool with a small amount of resistance on both side till the tool fit snug. Then you can rachet the pistons open. If you do not the tool will appear broken and not expand the blades. You will need to apply pressure to the blades when returning the tool to it's smallest setting.

Truthfully, I thought these were going to be one and done... BUT I am really surprised that they were built Very sturdily and was really easy to use..Worth the money in ease of mind..C clamps have a place but what a pain in the but..

The outer plates are held in with magnets and as long as they aren’t bumped they stay put. Once you figure how to realign them inside the brake assembly this unit worked perfect. I’m used to top end tools but only do automotive repairs at home, so I gambled on a ‘cheap’ tool, and it paid off. For the run-of-the-mill DIY’er this is a must have tool.

This tool works well once you grasp the concept of how to use it. The ratcheting mechanism is cheap and wonky but as I said above, it does work. I will only use this a few times a year so I can deal with it, bit if you are are a professional I would look elsewhere. The price makes this tool worth it to own, and it works a lot better than a C-clamp.
