Brainboxes' ES range provides a simple, instant cable replacement providing network integration. A web interface allows secure configuration and control of the serial ports over a local network or the Internet using any browser. For Windows Brainboxes' in-house designed (32-bit and 64-bit) driver gives you local COM ports, retaining existing software applications and allowing you to connect across your network to remote devices just as if they were attached locally.

In my work environment at a hospital with 20+ network closets, our network support is remote. This device can provide console access across the network, by connecting it to the console port on a network switch and a working network port to get a DHCP IP, you then use the Brainboxes program to find the IP on the network.Remote team can now use PuTTY to connect to that IP and resolve issues. It's only been used on Cisco 3550 and 2960 switches, so I can't say about other types of switches.
