Two stripped out. Will not stay tuned. Don't waste your time or money.

These went on a banjo I inherited since the old ones were failing. They weren't difficult to install and fit perfectly in a 3/8 hole. I like the three functioning pieces and the 5th head but one of the actual plastic pedals seems to have snapped off from whatever internal mechanism they are attached to. The plastic pedal spins freely but doesn't turn the tuning peg... Had to put an old one back on.

There is not much on the market for replacing tuners on tenor banjos without drilling into the headstock, which I do not like to do friviously. I got these tuners when one of my Goldtone tuners broke, and it turned out that the gold tone tuners were not even available on the market! The tuning action is a little rougher than the gold tone ones, but that is to be expected with the price being so low. They do stay in tune though, which was my main concern.Even though these tuners have a "rod" that goes into a drilled hole on the headstock, I just cut off the rod, and put them on like normal. The stability was not affected, and they stay in place with not problem at all. I now have a few extra tuners in case another one malfunctions. Not a bad tuner for the price and availability.

They were all choppy and a little bit hard to turn, but they work and get the job done.

Easy to install one didn’t work,I called and had a replacement the next day. Put them on my banjo they tune with little effort and stay in tune. They look great better than the guitar tuners I had on there.

Stay far from these!!! Upon FIRST use after installation, only 2 of tuners were functioning properly. The third tuner was not rotating smoothly, very choppy and sticking (on the inside) The fourth began to work as initial tuning began, but stopped functioning midway through the tuning process, grinding to a halt and stripped rendering it completely useless. Now what? A 5 string banjo with 4 strings. 2 tuners work, one barley works and one broken- all out of the box, first use... I have myself only to blame, thinking that as the price was a bit higher than others offered, I thought they would be of a slightly better quality. I was wrong... Buyer beware, these are absolute junk. The old saying is ringing true in my ears: You get what you pay for... Save yourself the grief and aggravation do not buy these tuners. Spend the money for a real set of quality tuners, like I am about to do (and should have done in the first place)

I have had these for a week, and I will certainly update the review if anything changes.Three out of the four are smooth turning, but the fourth is a little "notchy." The overall quality seems fine for the price. I am not using the geared 5th tuner as these are on an Irish tenor banjo. The 5th peg is certainly not smooth like the geared tuners on my other banjo's. They are chrome plated which matches the rest of the cheap hardware on this banjo, so while it's not what I would prefer it works out well in this case. The plating is even, and smooth.Tuning with these is uneventful, and predictable. Just the way you'd like it to be. There is no slipping, or lag in the response to adjustments. I am able to tune very precisely even with the low GDAE tuning of the Irish tenor. If the action was smooth on the whole set I would have given 5 stars, but the quality control is clearly hit or miss. Still completely serviceable.
