This sander is a work horse. With quality sanding discs this 5" sander is a beast. When connected to a dust extractor it makes a tiresome job go much faster. I would say that it is more in line with a finish sander than one you might use for exterior painting. I'll continue to use my Dewalt for that purpose.

I bought this sander thinking it would be way better than the $40 dewalts i had bought in the past. The first one i received lasted 5 minutes. A circular piece of rubber that covers the sanding pad sides, for the dust extraction, dropped down and cause the sander to stop. I took it apart and pushed it back on and used it for another 5 minutes and it did it again. For $150 I should not have to repair this, so I contacted customer service, first lady was not helpful, she didn’t send me the return information like she promised. so a week later I called again and a guy fixed everything. So i ship it off to a service place, they send me a bill that states that for $200 they can fix it, it was less than 1 month old and still under warranty. They claimed that the armature was bad and the brushes were burned up and something else I can’t remember, it had less than 10 minutes of run time. So I called bosch back and they said sorry and sent me a new one.So I was happy, but this new one vibrates a lot and its just not that nice compared to the $60 bosch I bought at the same time. If I had to do it again I would probably buy the cheaper $60 bosch sander or go back to the cheap dewalts, at least i know they last for several years.

Has great spinning action and doesn't leave scratch lines. Other sanders stop spinning when some pressure is put down on other brands they stop spinning and the Bosch has enough power it does not and makes the sanding easier.

I have had the older version of this sander for close to 20 years, to the point I can't remember not having it.But it plain wore out. This unit seemed fine and worked well and kept dust down well as long as I kept the filter cleaned. I used it to sand down some bondo on a seat frame. The second use was to rough up paint on a wood door I was painting. But after maybe an hr of use on the first day, 1 minute into my second use the dust collection seal separated from the sander and bound up the pad, stalling the motor. I took the pad off, reseated the seal, just for it to come right off again. Not sure how it is supposed to stay attached, seems to be a slip on, but no way this will last like my older one.I was initially using my normal 8 hole disks, but I decided to try the one multiple sample sandpaper, which does not align well with the holes for the dust collection. Not sure if that contributed to excessive suction that pulled the seal off. But in any case that should not happen ever.Returning and looking for another vendor to invest in

This cut my sanding time dramatically, compared to the ROS I was previously using. It's comfortable with multiple hand grip options, low vibration and I swear it completes tasks in about 1/5 of the time as my other sander.I purchased the 3M Cubitron sanding discs and am so excited about my new tools.

This replaced a older model that would just die after a few minutes of use. This out performed the best the old one ever performed, is quieter and seems to do a better job. This is still fairly new so will see how it lasts. The old one was probably 15 years old, hard to tell as time gets away from us.

Bought this sander to upgrade from 60 dollar dewalt sander (which has always been my ride or die). This sander is definitely better! It’s smoother, takes finish off faster and leaves no circle marks. The only thing is it’s pretty heavy compared to my dewalt. I’ll be using this on table tops and things I will stain. Otherwise, if I’m just scuff sanding to paint, I will use the dewalt bc it’s lighter. Definitely can tell a difference!

I've gone through a couple of these sanders and always return as they are my gold standard. You will not find a better one. They are pricey but well worth it. Good speed control and minimal handle vibration. I've never used the dust collection. The most common problem has been a switch now and then but that's easy to change.
