The timing cover alignment tools allow a safe, easy way to install the seal—by lightly tapping on the tool with soft rubber mallet. These specialized tools are designed to center the front or rear timing cover when it's installed to provide the correct alignment to the centerline of the crankshaft, and to help avoid seal leaks at the front or rear damper cover when installed.

Installation Instructions:
Method 1 (seal installed in cover):
Install the new front cover seal into the front cover Loosely install the front cover Install the seal tool over the snout of the crankshaft (using the small end) Check the alignment to the oil pan Tighten the front cover bolts to specifications
Method 2 (no seal installed in cover):
Loosely install the front cover Install the seal tool over the snout of the crankshaft using the large end Check the alignment to the oil pan Tighten the front cover bolts to specifications Install the balancer lip seal"

This worked very good on lining up my timing cover without taking off the oil pan on my 5.3 LS. I was able to tighten bolts while slightly turning the tool making sure nothing was binding. This is a must have if your crank seal is already installed.

You need to have the seal installed in the timimg cover, then you slide this tool over the crankshaft into the timing cover seal.the tool has a rough type finish and looks powdercoated or painted, I don't know if this would affect how precise it is.My only complaint is the price, it's not like it's a forged impact socket or special complicated gadget. It's basically just a spacer with a keyway on the inner diameter AND it made of aluminum.But if you need one, you gotta have one.It's a functional tool, I approve.I Hope My Review And Pictures Were Helpful To You !!

It's a very simple tool, but I find it absolutely necessary. Just slip it on and tighten the bolts down
