This square yard of black felt is indeed a square yard. The felt is average quality. If you normally buy felt in your local craft store by the small sheets, the thickness of this is on par with the least expensive sheets. If I hold it up to the light I can very faintly see my hand through it. This felt is actually softish, not stiff. It can fold into organic shapes and does not crease.While perfectly okay quality, this felt is a little expensive in my opinion. At the time of this review it is a little over 7 and a half dollars a yard. For that range I'd expect this to be a little thicker.
