I was a little surprised how dim this was, although I should have realized that it would be since it is only 20 watts. I was intending to use this to light a large cage (5 feet by 2 feet) from a holder a few feet above so that I could maximize the light coverage for the cage, but that won't work. I was also concerned at how hot this got especially since it is so dim. This might work for a small cage, but I wouldn't put it in a place where the inhabitants can get close enough to touch it.
