Nylon lock nuts differ from a standard hex nut in that they have a nylon insert secured within the nut. The nylon insert is located in a tapered section located at the back of the nut. When you install the nylon lock nut onto a bolt or threaded stud, the nylon insert wraps around the threads and locks the nut in place. This gives a nylon lock nut a distinct advantage over a lock washer when the bolt or threaded stud is subject to vibration, as the nylon lock nut is unaffected by vibration.
How to Use a Nylon Lock Nut
- Examine the nylon insert of the nylon lock nut to ensure that the insert is not damaged.
- Thread the nylon lock nut onto the bolt or threaded stud and turn the nut clockwise with your hand until it no longer turns. This will be the point that the nylon insert contacts the top thread of the fastener.
- Place the socket that matches the nylon lock nut on the 3/8 inch drive ratchet.
- Slide the socket onto the nylon lock nut and turn the handle of the ratchet clockwise to turn the nylon lock nut onto the fastener. You will feel some resistance from the nylon lock nut as you turn it onto the fastener. This is created by the nylon insert and is completely normal.
- Continue turning the ratchet handle until the nylon lock nut seats tightly against the surface of the material you are securing with the nut.
- Inspect the nylon insert of the lock nut to ensure that it is intact after installation.
Applications
Nylon lock nuts are used across a wide variety of industries, including in appliances, computers, furniture, medical equipment, vehicles, sheet metal, and aircraft. Heavier nylon insert lock nuts are used in buildings, on bridges, and in railroad equipment.

When I looked for some good nuts with the size of 8-32 to fix the problem of losing nuts on my computer desk. I found this kit with reasonable price for 100 nuts. The quality of nuts were good. The nuts could fix the problem of my desk, and some other tables, and metal shelves around my house. The package came with a flexible plastic case. It was not easy to break. I have not found any problem with the nuts yet. Therefor, I give it 5 stars.

I thought thus was a super deal but it appears the quantity in the pitch selection area is incorrect. In the description it says 20 which is what came but when you select the size and thread pitch it says 50. Luckily I only need 16 and this gers corrected soon to prevent confusion. Overall this is a good deal.

Good nuts so far and price is right would be five stars but some of the nuts didn’t have the nylon inserted properly but the rest are fine and was only a select few so no big deal

It's hard to stand out as a fastener in a field in which the products have been manufactured forever, so I'm always looking for a good product at a good price. These self-locking nuts work well and seem to be durable. I have no complaints with them and would buy them again. I've now used them on several projects including around the house, a boat and vehicles.

We ordered these along with some screws to mount DIN rails on foam boards to display electronics for a trade show. Keep these and returned the screws (different brand).The quality is just fine. I also like the small flat plastic box these come in, which is much easier to store and use than the thin cardboard boxes that are normal for fasteners.

I have a few projects that will be for outdoor items, like my utility trailer. Using these on Yellawood pressure treated lumber of the decking and side boards on the trailer and other dissimilar metal connections. We'll see how resistant they are to weathering. Good so far.

In refitting an older fishing boat I worked in basically 2 bolt sizes and buying bulk lock nuts, washers and bolts in stainless is handy and cost effective.
