In order to protect the fragile tip of this bit I have only been using it to machine chamfers so that the tip is never used. I have tried it on aluminum, brass, and CRS and 12L14 and it cuts like any other brand-new bit and leaves a good finish. This type of bit is prone to losing its tip if are actually trying to directly cut a V-notch in harder materials. I think if I actually needed a V-notch I would first use a series of flat end bits to machine away most of the material, including a small diameter bit at the very end to clear most of the material at the very corner of the notch. Then I would use this bit to clean up the remaining material, keeping the depth of the passes shallow along with a high rpm and slow feed rate to allow the tip to cut.I only have a home machine shop so it would be difficult for me to make any statements about longevity of this bit in comparison with others. For my use I expect it will last a very long time.

Cutter looked great, and was excited to try it. The very first cut I made doing a v-notch down the face of 1/4inch mild steel plate, .012 depth, and an entire edge broke of immediately on touching the steel. Not sure if I just got a bad cutter, but needless to say i was not happy with this one.The point and one edge are completely gone, but the other 3 edges seem ok so I will try it on some chamfers, but I don't have high expectations. For $50 I think we should all expect to get more than a few uses from a cutter. I didn't get a few inches from mine!
