This espresso machine brought me a smile of satisfaction. It's Simple to use, moderately attractive, small footprint, and works quick: works in 4 or 5 minutes tops (haven't timed it), and reheats my remaining espresso at a decent speed (slower than a microwave, of course, but a couple of minutes for a reheat is great). It's easy to clean and maintain. I love this espresso pot after having used it every day for the past two months. The 1 cup adapter works well - in other reviews, I noticed some folks had trouble with it, but it may be how I tap the filter to cause the coffee to settle in - see my tips further below. The automatic shut-off feature is both simple and effective (lift the pot, and it switches off), but it is NOT on a timer so your espresso will continue to heat. While this isn't a problem for a few minutes, it will scorch your espresso if it sits there too long; there will be residue (which I found to be easily cleaned off). I didn't ding my review because I was not looking for a pot with a timed feature; the auto-off feature does what it's supposed to do.My only dissatisfaction is the top itself - the hinge makes the whole thing feel a little flimsy. If anything is going to go on this machine, it will be this hinge, which will mean finding a replacement vessel. Be careful with it. This is where I would have dropped a half star if I could have.A Few Tips, which may be useful for all espresso pots of this sort (both self-powered and standard pots):- Do not tamp the coffee in the filter as it may give a poor performance (too tightly packed and coffee expands when wet). HOWEVER leaving it too loose makes for a weaker brew than can be optimally achieved. My solution is to fill the filter with espresso to a cone peak (rising above the rim), and then gently tap it on a solid surface which causes everything to settle.- When securing pot to reservoir be sure it's rather snug but not overly snug. Initially it's better to feel that it's a little loose than too tight, and you can correct as you go along. I know this point may not be too helpful but DEFINITELY make sure it's not on there loose.- When tightening or loosening you can provide more than adequate pressure easily by placing your fingers in the cleft/intersection of the seam where both spout meets pot and handle meets pot, keeping your fingers closest to the pot (images 2, 3, 4), and turning clockwise to tighten while applying a little pressure to both spout and handle joints. As mentioned in the instructions, DON'T use the actual handle (further down the handle) to loosen or tighten the pot on the reservoir; not only is it plastic, it's hollow and it makes me a little nervous. To be safe, only loosen the pot from the base once the whole unit is cool, though the (likely) silicon ring at the bottom of the reservoir of this particular unit stays cool enough to touch immediately after removing it from the heating base.

Makes a strong cup, a bit stronger than my gas burner version I have at home. This may be due to the coffee ground reservoir, which holds a bit more grounds; 3-cup (240ml) at home. I am including directions below as it seems some have been having issues. Moka pots are simple to use, but if using too fine a grind or course will ruin the coffee. I use three different types of coffee as they are common in my area, but your mileage may vary. These are available at most major food stores. - good - good - betterFill water to just below the relief valve in the base. Filtered water is best to prevent mineral build-up. Scoop espresso into coffee reservoir, but do not tamp or pack, and slide something flat across the top to remove excess grounds. My coffee scoop has a long handle, which does this fine. Drop grounds reservoir into base. Screw on top lightly, doesn't have to be super tight. Place on base, turn on, and listen. When you see it fill and hear a water gurgle sound, it's done. Turn unit off, or remove from the base and the switch goes into off position. Pour and enjoy!Three years later: Still using this for a daily dose in the afternoons at work. Has been working great, and the comments from other office staff about the coffee aroma are often. Only wish my unit came with the 1-cup adapter, so I could brew up a single shot instead of three. Oh well, doesn't detract from the excellent coffee it makes.
