BDF NA05 DAYTIME PRIVACY AND SOLAR HEAT CONTROL

Very Dark Black Film for Glare Reduction

BDF NA05 black finish provides excellent daytime privacy, making it hard for unwanted eyes to see through. The extra dark black tint of the NA05 helps reduce glare. The "05" in its name refers to the fact that it is rated to transmit about 5% of visible light. Not suitable for dual pane windows.

BDF NA05 DAYTIME PRIVACY AND SOLAR HEAT CONTROL

Conceal Your Interior with Daytime Privacy

This film is in the darkest shade range, providing excellent daytime privacy. It prevents unwanted eyes outside from seeing what's happening inside while retaining view from inside during the day. At night, it may be possible to see in with lights on inside, but not as easily as with a clear window.

  • There is a clear "backing liner" layer attached to the actual "film" layer. The backing liner covers the adhesive on the film so that the film does not prematurely stick. When you install the film, the backing liner needs to be peeled off from it.

  • If lights are on inside, the interior will be visible at night because it is brighter. Curtains or blinds can be closed at nighttime to block view. (During daytime, you can see out while having privacy from outside due to the sunlight outside.)

  • This is an expected result. The window with the film installed feels warmer because the film stops some of the heat. If the film is not there, the heat felt on the window would instead enter the room.

  • This is due to the moisture left inside. The film may appear fine when installed, but afterwards, the water can interfere with the adhesive and cause bubbles to form. Apply firm pressure with the squeegee and push out the water to prevent bubbles.

  • This film is not recommended for dual pane windows due to the higher heat absorption rate. This can build up heat between the panes, which would stress the window. (Heat absorption is different from heat blocking rate.)

The BDF NA05 Daytime Privacy and Heat Rejection Window Film does a fantastic job of providing daytime privacy while noticeably reducing heat from the sun on my southern exposure windows. The film is very dark, which works well in blocking out sunlight, and it's great for keeping my rooms cool without the need for heavy blinds or curtains. I applied it to the windows in my den, and the room is much cooler and darker, which works well for video calls. The Kit has a small squeegee, a razor knife, and a small squirt bottle. Do yourself a favor and purchase straight-edge razor blades, a large squirt bottle, and a bigger squeegee. Use the razor knife to cut your tint from the roll (I broke the blades after every four cuts to keep from tearing tint), and use the straight-edge razors to trim tint when applying to windows. It's essential to take your time to avoid bubbles. Use your squeegee and soap and water mixture to work out bubbles. The results are worth it once the tint is in place and dried. Overall, it is a solid product that serves its purpose well!

There is a warning with this product NOT FOR DUAL PANE WINDOWS. I think most windows in the country are double or triple paned. My guess is this film causes excessive heat to build up between the panes of glass that can shatter the glass.I placed it on my dual paned windows anyway. They only get direct morning sun. I'll update my post if they crack. Otherwise, I love this film! I've purchased window film from HD that was more expensive and flimsy. This is quick and easy to install. All the tools you need come in the box except for a spray water bottle and scissors.Clean the windowCut the film to measure, leaving an inch or two to play withSpray the glass liberally with soapy waterUse two pieces of tape to separate the film from the backingPlace the film on the window and use the soft side of the scraper to smooth and push bubbles towards an edgeFinally, use the razor to trim the excess filmIt takes less than 5 minutes a window! This particular film is very dark. The sunlight from one family room window made it nearly impossible to see the television. This film fixed the problem. I had some extra I used on the sidelight by the front door. I have a window covering on it inside but this film looks better than the back of the window coverings. It darkens the entry hall but keeps in cooler inside. I should’ve installed it years ago.

Bottom line: This product is effective in reducing the heat and providing privacy in the day time. To cover two windows that are about 30" x 60", it took me about 1.5 hours with help from one other person, including prep and clean up. Recommend installing during the day time to avoid gaps in the edges.I live in a high rise in Hawaii, and the afternoon sun really heats up our bathroom. In order to cut the heat and also get a little privacy, I decided to give this a shot. When I opened the package, I noticed that there was a spot that had a wrinkle, and it basically went through the entire roll. Since I had broken the seal, I figured I couldn't return it anymore so just decided to go ahead with the installation. After installation, I can't tell where the wrinkles were. Here is what I did for installation:1. Cleaned the windows real good with windex and removed any hardware that would get in the way.2. I first cut it close to the size of my windows, 30" x 60" - i had to do this on my floor on top the shipping box for this item. It was a little time consuming to do the cuts but it wasn't too challenging. You don.t have to get it exactly right, just leave it a little bit bigger than you need.3. Spray the window with water and a little bit of dish detergent4. Put a small piece of tape on each side of a corner to facilitate separation of the backing from the film5. With the help of another person, I removed all of the backing material. I think this was easier than trying to gradually roll down6. Put the film on from the top of the window- spray more water/soap if you need to maneuver the film. Try to get it on as straight as possible, and dont worry too much about smaller bubbles7. Follow the directions on the package and use the included squeegee- it works really well to get the bubbles out8. Trim the edges- here is where I messed up a little bit. I was doing this at night time since I just hadn't had any time during the day to do this- I did not align the trimming exactly at the edge of the window so I ended up with small gaps around the perimeter. It would have been easy enough to trim right along the edge during the day time, but because the film is so dark, I couldn't really see where the edges were and I just went by feel using a straight edge. So now I have little gaps along the edges. It's not too bad, but I'm still debating if I want to redo the install to get rid of the gaps....
