I woke up one morning last week and my mom said the heat was out. I went to the basement and checked the boiler. The pilot was out; the boiler was cold, and the pilot would not stay lit (that means it's likely a bad thermocouple). Luckily, I had one of these thermocouples that I had ordered ahead of time, just in case. In about an hour, I had the new thermocouple in the furnace and had it relit and heating up the house. I will always keep one of these on hand as a spare. No need to call a furnace tech, wait for hours to get heat back to the house and spend lots of money.
