the 6 mm in the set of 4 has a defect that looks like a piece was cut out of it. It is not smooth, and this defect I think could cause tearing or cutting if inserted. Not worth sending back...but I won't be using the defected 6mm.

I love these. I love how smooth they are. I wish the hand was shorter, but other than that, no complaints.

They were smooth, and symmetrical, without any sharp points or rough spots of any kind. The handles appear to be the bar stock the sound was turned on a lathe with. I am sure surgical instruments have better handles. Except for the largest sound, that appears to be (Handle that is, not instrument.) made of brass of some sort. They are easy to hold, and use. There is a 2mm to 5mm sound set for sale in their store, if you need to start smaller. I personally think the largest two won't ever get used by me, and seem awful large for most men. Won't hurt to have them I guess. Sadly the 2 mm is not available separately, so I might have to buy another set of four to get it.

These are not, and should not be mistaken for medical-grade instruments. The Rosebud tips are misshapen, non-symmetrical and appear to have been hand ground, perhaps on a sanding belt or grinding wheel. Of the four, one had not been fully rounded at the tip, leaving a sharp-edged blunt end. Another had a similar issue at the tail of the "rosebud" where it is brazed to the shaft. When I ran the edge of my fingernail along this joint, it was able to remove shavings of that nail. I don't recommend putting these things anywhere near your popular parts. I'll keep mine for stirring epoxy, or maybe pass them off as cocktail stirrers. No pun.

Two of the rods have holes behind the tip. Seems like a place bacteria would likely grow. The other two rods are great.

Variety of sizes is good. Smooth and easy to clean. Rosebud is much more comfortable than single diameter sound.

I bought this set for self-dilation (as it is called in the literature) not for any possible erotic use. They work well in that capacity and are the right size for me (4, 5, 6, 7mm is 12, 15, 18, 21 on the French scale). They bend but not by much; however, their lack of flexibility is not a problem.I am reluctant to say more than this as you should definitely consult with your urologist prior to attempting self-dilation. He has better tools (graduated dilators) that work under most circumstances, and you should have the first dilation in the office. Then bring up the subject and get some professional advice on how to perform a self-dilation as appropriate to your situation. That said, this set works well for that purpose, being of the right sizes and length. Well made.
