I wouldn't use anything this inexpensive for serious navigation. This was the perfect size and function for my 8' sailing dinghy. I may wire it up to be illuminated in the future but I have no intentions of sailing in the dark. One of the things I really like with this other than the features for its size, is that it is very lightweight. Compatible instruments can weight twice as much. This is just the right size for getting my bearings.

Good sturdy compass but there was no way to adjust for declination. A little allen's wrench or screwdriver to make the adjustment was what I expected. Our car also has something that is affecting the compass and I can't correct for that either.

This is a good looking small deck compass, but the seller could help themselves by showing a little more detail on the product page. There is no indication there of how the compass mounts nor how the compass looks other than the single photo thatās provided. Iāll try to help a little with that. ⢠The compass looks solid and well sealed, and the markings are large and clear. The compass is nicely damped but also responds immediately to changes in direction without any lag. ⢠There is no separate mounting plate. You just screw the compass down to the deck with three screws. The screw heads will be visible in their recessed mounting holes. Three stainless sheet metal screws are included as one option for mounting. ⢠The compass has a light that provides a small, orange illumination just at the front, where you read your heading. I took a photo in the dark, but note that there wasnāt enough light for my phone camera to focus sharply on the markings. There is enough room to tuck the wires into the open cavity around outer diameter of the compass housing if you donāt plan to connect the light. ⢠There is no indication of where the compass is manufactured, but the included information sheet identifies the manufacturer as Autonautic, based in Barcelona, Spain.Overall, I like the compass and the quality appears to be comparable with other name-brand small deck compasses. I am going to make a base plate to use this as a kayak deck compass (strapped to the deck with bungee cords), and the simple 3-screw mounting will make it easy to adapt the compass for my application.

Got this one for my car, not a boat, mainly for science and as a backup navigation tool.It preforms well in rough and bumpy driving, as well as on fairly steep hills, so I assume it should not have any issues in it's designed role on a boat. The light does work, but it is dim and my solution for wiring it was awkward so I resorted to a small flashlight instead for the time I tried it at night.Overall seems like a pretty nice compass that should do it's job.

I recently picked up this surface-mount boat compass with a built-in light, and itās been a fantastic addition for sailing my dinghy. The compact size makes it easy to mount without taking up much space, and itās sturdy enough to handle the bumps and splashes that come with sailing smaller boats. The compass is clear and easy to read, with well-marked directions that make navigation simple, even when Iām out on open water. One of the best features is the small built-in light, which really comes in handy for evening or early-morning trips. Itās bright enough to see clearly without being distracting, which helps me stay on course even in low-light conditions. Installation was straightforward, and the compass feels securely mounted, so I donāt have to worry about it shifting. For anyone with a small boat or dinghy, this compass is a reliable and practical tool thatās well-suited for both day and night sailing.

The Surface Mount Compass - C3001 is a solid choice for use in a rib or dinghy. Iāve had it mounted on my small boat for a while, and itās been reliable for navigation. The compass is sturdy and handles the typical bumps and water exposure that come with boating. It provides stable readings, even when the boat is moving through choppy water.Installation was simple, and it fits securely in place. The compact size works well in smaller boats, where space is limited. The degree markings are clear and easy to read, and the compass operates smoothly for making course adjustments.Iāve given it four stars because the built-in lighting for night use is a bit dim. Itās visible, but not very bright, so in dark conditions, you might need a separate light source. During the day, it works well.Overall, itās a good compass for daytime navigation. If youāre out on the water at night often, the lighting could be a drawback.

I got the compass and right out of the undamaged box, the floater was tilted off to one side like it had too much weight on it. I looked at it with a flashlight and seen what looked like some chips of plastic stuck to it and not to mention the globe came right out of its cover like it was never even in it. I don't even know how it got that way because the box it came in was in good shape and had no damage at all. For the chips of plastic stuck to the bottom of the floater inside the fluid that had to be done at the manufacture. Just make sure if you buy this that the floater is not leaning heavy to one side.

I have an older 1988 Sunbird Center console that I am restoring. This is a very nice replacement for what was on my boat. My old one was very sun faded and I could barely see the lettering. I do not have that problem any more with this. Very easy to mount and to read. Now that I have a T-top for my boat it blocks most of the sun from getting on top of my console. So I shouldn't have to worry about sun fade anymore.
