Thin, see-thru foam, similar to type that comes in a sm electronics item as cushioning. It will likely help catch some bits of leaf & grass, but its holes are too lg for dirt dust. Also, $10 is far too much for 6 of these.

I bought our lawnmower brand new, and when I opened up the air filter box, I found a standard pleated paper filter and nothing more....no foam pre-filter band. OK, fine....it's just a lawnmower, so maybe a pre-filter is not used. Then, when I searched the replacement part number to replace that used pleated paper filter, I found plenty of options of also purchasing the matching foam pre-filter band. I know from experience that the foam pre-filter band is an advantage to keeping the pleated filter underneath it clean for longevity of use. These AutoEC pre-filter bands are very inexpensive and provide a valuable service.
