I had a 3-space AutoMeter bracket with the 2-5/8" holes. I wanted to put a tach in one of the locations, but all I could find was this 3708 tach that was meant to mount on a column. Removing the plastic cover and using two SS hose clamps did the trick and now I have a small tachometer in my additional gauge cluster from the late 1980s.

Works well and the size is a perfect fit, mounted it on my steering column with no obstructions even with the tilt steering.

Nice little tach. I wanted a clean look on my dashboard, and didn't want a large 3 or 5 inch tach on the A pillar, dashboard or steering column. This tach mounted nicely in the dash and matched the other guages. Gave me the clean finished look I was looking for and works great.

Quality is decent and everything is included to get the install done. My beef is the accuracy... how do you know if your engine is spinning at 2200 or 2300 RPM? You can't tell with this tack as the graduations are too small because of two reasons.. 1) The tach face is small and this is also why I bought this one because bigger isn't better on my steering column. 2) On that little tach face Autometer thought it was smart to divide up the area with an 8000 RPM arc. Most pushrod V8's never see anything north of 5000 RPM so why not make a (not-diesel) 5000 RPM tach? Silly but I guess there are enough drivers out there who need an 8000 RPM tach but those same drivers probably have big wangs too.

Auto-Meter has a reputation for quality gauges and this tach is no exception. Install went perfectly, the tach had no defects and runs like a top. The tach wire had plenty of length and didn't require any extensions. The only problem I encountered was fitting it perfectly on the steering column (where I chose to mount it) so that it would not interfere with anything. The bezel of the tach is small, but the guage itself is LONG, almost 4" front to back, something to consider if you plan to mount it in a tight space. One other thing, if your vehicle has a dimming feature and you wish to retain this feature on your tach, you will have to separate the ground between the tach itself and the ground for the tach light. They are connected to the same wire inside the tach. If you don't separate them, the tach will either remain illuminated or dim when you increase the gauges to max brightness, and it will go max bright when you dim.
