I was looking for a compact and affordable monocular that featured a decent zoom for various water and hunting activities along with my larger and heavier binoculars. Sometimes, a smaller "scope" is all you need instead of the big bulky binoculars.I found this one by Aurosports with10-30x40 zoom in my search on Amazon for a relatively decent price. After reading through the mostly positive reviews and a smattering of low ratings and reviews, I decided to take a chance on it, and I am so glad I did.I have found this monocular to be of excellent quality and value, and I am very pleased with my purchase. It comes with a cloth carry pouch, a small lanyard, and a lens cleaning cloth.Positive points:It has good weight to it and has rubberized non-slip grips. The size is surprisingly compact and will fit in backpacks, rucksacks and jacket pockets quite nicely. The zoom and twisting focus actions are silent and smooth.Focus is crisp and easy hone in on. You do lose a small amount of focus when zooming, but all you have to do is give it a little turn and focus back into perfection for a clear, sharp picture..I was able to focus and zoom on objects as close as 7 feet, and as far as the moon. The zoom is amazingly bright at the higher power, which is helpful when using it in the shadows of woods or at dusk. The zoom on the moon was perfect enough that I could clearly see some of the craters that are normally too small to see with the naked eye. I was also able to read the street sign about a quarter of a mile away with no problem. The 40mm lens is large enough to allow light through, and I had no trouble seeing my target at dusk. The lens caps fit securely and will not fall off.The matte black and rubber coated exterior does not reflect light, although the lens might reflect some, but it is minimal. I do not anticipate it being an issue while deer hunting. It can be mounted to a tripod or camera, and the screw hold is bored smooth, and is standard size. The piece feels very stable, and the craftsmanship feels spot-on. There is no interior noise from the mechanics of the monocular or the lenses. Everything feels very securely fitted into place. It is advertised as fog free and waterproof. I took it outside on a very cold night, and straight from the warmth of my home and it did not fog up. As far as being waterproof, well, I'm not going to use it in the rain or dunk it in a river to find out.Cons:The lens caps are not tethered to the monocular and could easily be left behind or dropped and lost.At 30x zoom, it may be difficult for some to hold it steady without a tripod. The string lanyard is thin and does not feel trustworthy enough to wrap around anything to carry or hold. I'll probably replace it at some point with a sturdier one.The fabric pouch is thin, and I anticipate it not lasting long (but that's what those spare Crown royal Bags are used for, right?)____All in all, this is a great purchase that I am very happy with. I will definitely purchase a second one if I happen to lose or break this one, and I may even purchase a couple more to use as gifts.

Great product, on full zoom i can read name on a Big Vessel Ship which is 8Km far from beach by using tripod. You can identify a person easily if you are standing 1km far but use tripod otherwise you’ll not get stable image on full zoom.

Having researched the most recent generation of monoculars, this one is to my mind, by far the best value for money out there in this price range. There are all sorts of outrageous claims made in the ads, for items that are at best described as "optical junk", all manner of ridiculous magnifications claimed that can never work, or "quality prisms" on instruments that don't have any prisms etc., etc. However, this neat item is the real thing. The lenses have a subtle full multicoating, to enable maximum light transfer. The quality, but unobtrusive, BAK 4 prisms (general the best kind) do a really good job, and the magnification and focusing mechanisms have a positive feel to them. The Claimed magnification is 10x to 30x. I feel by comparison to my other equipment, that the maximum figure is probably nearer to 26 to 28 times, but the difference is really insignificant. The mono stays pretty much in focus as the magnification is changed (which is rare at these prices) and there is little to no image distortion at the image edge, and no real coloured "fringing" either. A very good unit at this sort of price, with a really bright clear image, FAR better than many considerably more expensive models. Initially, you need to pay attention to the instructions on setting-up and focusing this instrument, but once you have tried a few times this all comes as second nature. The weather proof body of the mono is an Aluminium/Magnesium alloy, which means it is light but strong, and the entire item has a very good quality feel to it. The simple but useful canvas storage case, and the lens caps, also give a nice sense of straightforward quality to this monocular. A genuinely good instrument at a very good price - especially as I bought it on an "Amazon Prime Day" with a "one-off" price reduction - Excellent !

I am not compensated for this 5 star review. First, this monocular takes a few minutes to get used to. I purchased it to replace a broken pair of binoculars. This little unit came with a small lanyard, a cleaning cloth and an instruction guide. Because its small its hard to hold stable, but it does provide a clear, bright view of distant objects. The zoom works well. It is not the waterproof model. It fits nicely in my jacket pocket and my car’s glove compartment so it is very accessible. I have not yet attempted to use it with tripod or smart phone, but it does have a tripod fitting. I also like that it comes from Aurosports and arrived very quickly, next day.

Bought this over a month ago to field trial before giving as Christmas gift to daughter (wants to bird watch and duck hunt with dad). Am pleasantly surprised at the quality and performance. As an outdoorsman I have very high-end optics (Zeiss, Leupold, Nikon) so I know good optic performance. While I can’t speak to ruggedness or endurance of this Aurosports monocular (only time will tell), I will attest to its optical performance. It is bright and crisp throughout it’s power range. There is a bit of minor bleeding or blur (some may not even notice) at extreme outer edges of scope but I don’t find that to be a problem since object in view will most always be centered. This is just a NICE. LITTLE. UNIT.I saw some reviews with questions/confusion about ability to focus and effective use on targets close-in. The unit DOES focus, just learn how. (Think: retractable telescopic “pirate scope” and you’ll figure it out.) And it will handle targets as close as 6-7 yards in (10x). And 30x max zoom is just as clear (note at 30x you’ll need surgeon-stable hands or a tripod to stabilize).Don’t get your heart set on perfect directions, they lack. Christmas morning I had both my 20-something kids try the scope, independently, no directions. They both figured out how to extend, adjust 10x-30x power, and focus. Ok, they didn’t notice the eye cup. But that’s just an option to use or not (rotates CCW to extend the eye cup). They both used binoculars before so those basics of use apply here as well. And....was a factor in their ability to quickly figure-out the unit. This unit is more than worth the price. I’d buy it again without hesitation.

Bought it to see bullet holes in shooting targets 100-200 yds out. Works fine for that purpose at a very reasonable price. Took a while to figure out how to use it - be patient! Instructions not well written as usual with value imports. But construction is of solid quality and lens picture more than acceptable. For person saying it’s missing a screw - I don’t think it has one. The screw is part of a separate tripod- To use the lanyard - the small string part has to be worked through an opening at the top of the tripod port and then the larger lanyard part looped back through the small strings. You have to figure that out on your own because the instructions don’t mention it.I’m pleased enough and would recommend it for a distance viewer.EDIT: this is my first "monocular" and it took me awhile to figure out how to use it on the range. Best practice? set the distance to 10X - (turn the ring closest to the eyepiece end to where the little black arrow (its hard to see but it's one of the raised lines directly on the ring) points directly on 10X). Then use the lower ring to get that into clear focus. THEN go back and start to increase the magnification as far as you want by turning that upper ring towards 30X. doing that will probably distort the picture's focus but the adjustments using the lower end won't be that dramatic. The point is to start at 10X and work up from there. Just too hard to accomplish starting at 30. it actually works pretty darn well....
