Albert & Andres (Color)

Augustine's History is Guitar History

Augustine Strings' legacy of innovation began over 75 years ago when our founder, Albert Augustine, successfully created the first nylon guitar string at the request of legendary Spanish classical guitarist, Andrés Segovia.

As the inventor and producer of the gold standard of nylon guitar strings, Augustine continues to advance the sonic possibilities of our instrument today with the introduction of the crystal nylon Imperial and Regal lines and the fluorocarbon Paragon sets - all strings of the highest quality, made in the USA, and designed to offer guitarists a full range of options to bring out the best sound and playability from their instrument.

I really only used low tension strings before playing a guitar with Savarez Corum Cristals.. Not a particularly good guitar, but it sounded amazing! I didn't understand how much of a difference trebles can make. I love those Savarez strings but i generally buy these more as they are usually less expensive. For anyone with a super warm instrument or a crossover that just seems too quiet... High Tension strings are a nice place to start. I had used HT D'addario strings at one point but I've never been super impressed with neither them nor the low tension D'addario strings. The g is always flabby on my guitar. Even the Augustine blacks perform better for me. I haven't tried the Regal trebles on my own guitar, but i played them on a friend's instrument and didn't like them more than Imperials. I'll have to report back. One issue with Augustine strings is always the basses. I put a set of Imperials on with the Red Basses and, two weeks later, there is already substantial wear around the frets.. I know other guitarists experience this too to varying degrees: a friend of mine usually ends up breaking his d string after a month, so he bought a ton of extra d strings.. Savarez strings just don't seem to have this issue..

Strings are described and half high tension and half medium tension, but are shipped as all high tension. I experienced this once before and knew of the issue before ordering again. Note to seller, when you fix the description, please dont stop selling the set with high tension basses and trebles.

Calido Guitars is the only place I buy my classical strings from. Their fast and very easy to deal with. They always follow up after the purchase, making sure your satisfied. And Augustine strings are the best I've ever used. There are many other good strings. It's a matter of preference.

I've been playing classical guitar for many decades but have only sparingly tried the Augustine classic sets. I've depended on Savarez strings for a while, apart from the ever reliable and cheaper D'Addario sets. I recently read up on the newer line up of Augustine strings and since I've always been a fan of mixed tension sets (high tension base and normal tension trebles), I decided to try the Imperial Blue set. First thing I noticed is that the diameter of the treble strings are quite bigger than the ones I'm used to, especially compared to carbon strings. I was afraid I would not be able to make these strings sing. However, it did not take me long to get accustomed to them. The strings indeed sing and are one of the best sounding strings I've played. I've had the set on my guitar for over a month now and I play guitar everyday, a lot of times, so I really give these strings a good workout. They have held on and I have not thought about changing them out for a new set just yet. For the price, which is cheaper than a Savarez set, and the sound, I decided to make these strings my primary set from hereon.

Catalog listed these as light tension but are actually heavy. You can tell if you enlarge image.
