i had to shorten the modulator pin to get ealier shift even though it was adjusted out on the screw.

The part is sound, however, the installation of the new part is difficult because the cat is in the way and must be removed also

Well the original problem was my 1994 ford explorer using transmission fluid. Did so.e research and determined this modulator was the problem. So this is a pain to get to as you have to take the seat and center console out. Then it's a very tight fit to get your hand down to get to the part. I got to the old one and got the new one installed. Took for a test drive and it shifted like crap. Has a adjustment screw to adjust the shift points. But that means getting to part and removing again. Long story short I took our and adjusted about 5 times. Ultimately it shifts good again and isn't using fluid. Three stars though for not being somewhat close to being correctly adjusted out of the box. Ended up rubbing the skin off my wrist from installing and removing so many times. FYI Mine required the adjustment screw backed out till it almost fell out to get to shift right.

The factory one was preset no adjustments , this one needs adjusted . On the Ranger it is a real pain to get to it and work on it let alone adjust !

It destroyed my transmission caused my gears not to shift then when it shifted it slammed into gear till finally I could only go in reverse. Truck been sitting ever since!

I replaced my original because it was sucking tranny fluid into my engine crankcase... an interesting situation when you check your oil and you have more there than when you started. Anyway, I replaced it with a part from O'Reilly Auto and it was a disaster. My 94 Mazda B4000 shifted around 4000 rpm and ran like a cement truck. After installing this part, my transmission is back to its old self... shifts smooth as silk.

I installed this on my 1992 Ford Explorer and as soon as I went on my test drive I had very harsh shifts. When I got home I found a lot of transmission fluid in my intake that came from the vacuum line off the modulator. I bought one from autozone and threw it on and now I'm back on the road again. I wouldn't be so pissed if it wasn't in such a tight space to get to. BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK!

My transmission wouldn't go into 1st gear on really cold days. I talked to several shops and kept getting the same answer that I just needed a new transmission even though everything else works fine on it. I did a little research and decided to start with replacing the vacuum modulator and my transmission goes into gear just fine now. Its only been in for a couple weeks but so far so good. Very easy to put in and a cheap fix to try before going straight to an expensive trans shop.
