So I own one of each size heater and they work great but on first start up they stink so bad I have an exterior door open airing out the house when it's 1 degrees out. Thus picture above. The instalation is pretty simple if you have a oscillating saw. Though if you have plaster like me you should grab 3 blades. The heater install is a 6/10 on difficulty on install, 2/10 on plumbing difficulty, a 70% efficiency and would recommend getting a couple stove fans.

Needed to replace my ~50 year-old heater (R.I.P. dear old Warm Morning heater) so I bought this one. Know up front because I didn't, that this heater requires and comes with a special air inlet-outlet pipe. I couldn't simply put this Ashley where the other heater sat because that retired heater vents through the roof without the special required pipe. So I found another spot for the Ashley and it works great in my 3-room one story house. I maybe didn't have to, but I used some electric space heaters in other areas of the house. The only problem with the Ashley heater, but understandable, is that when I first turned it on, it smelled bad for ~6 hours - something was burning off, but the smell eventually went away. It set off my smoke alarm even though I couldn't see any smoke, so I just unplugged the alarm for the rest of the day. Despite the cold on that early October day, I let the heater run with a door cracked open to make sure I got some fresh air and didn't die, which might have been a bummer. Since that smell stopped, the heater has performed great and I've never even turned it up past 3.5 of the 1 - 5 temperature dial. It has a button pilot-light that started on the 1st (or was it the 2nd?) push. It came without a little nut that connects a rod through the outside vent into the heater's interior to help hold it in place. I called customer service, who sent me a bag of parts that didn't have the nut in it, so I just went to a hardware store.

Product is very well built heater. I knew Ashley made wood burning stoves so I knew that this natural gas heater would be well built. Very easy for one person to install with a little planning. I have 3 more seasonal cabins I will be buying the same item for those as well.

I bought a year and a half ago. The pilot light has never worked even though I replaced it twice. One must light the pilot by hand. Doing so bends the pilot feed tube, and it just broke. The part is on back order. To recap, it does not work as advertised and is not worth buying.

back of the heater was bent in when unpackaged, I took front off and was able to fix, then when installation was complete pilot would not light, removed from heater and found ignitor not sparking, had to bend electrode over towards pilot so it would reference ground to get a spark, once I had spark I still could not get pilot lit, I was getting gas and lit pilot with a lighter to verify it would work, had about 4 extra hours in getting things this work. Had to wait 8 days to get heater, did not have time to wait on a replacement, have never had any luck with amazon standing behind what they sell.
