I was extremely disappointed by this amplifier it checked all the right boxes until I set it up in my studio to replace my Samson servo(convection cooled). The first apparent issue is the hum the cooling system produces and if you keep your gear inside your studio (no rack room) then this will drive you mad. The bright blue led on the front panel is way to bright, and the overall noise floor of the amplifier is too high. I returned and replaced with a avatone cla100.

I'm not using this for studio monitoring; I'm actually just powering a couple of bookshelf speakers in my music room if I want music to play along with. I've owned a fair amount of pro audio and recording equipment over the last 20 years, and this amp is a quality piece. The knobs and switches are all what you would expect, and it's got heft to it. The fans are quiet under its fairly light 8 ohm load, driving 5" bookshelf Polks. It's clean and transparent and seems to have plenty of headroom under most things you would do with it. I'm using the balanced ins from an inexpensive little preamp that allows bluetooth and instrument connections, as well as radio and anything else I might want. If you're looking for a rackmount in this wattage range, I think it's a really good value.

I have used many of these for commercial monitor speaker applications. They work, they are pretty cheap. The quality is decent. I have no complaints.

Used for my keyboard setup. I feed my mixer audio thru a dbx 223 crossover with the high freq audio thru the SLA1 to my speakers. The low end audio is fed to a subwoofer system. The amp just sounds great! Utterly reliable, doesn't get hot no matter how long it runs. I did not disconnect the fans as some have. I have the amp in a cabinet and the fan noise isn't bothersome to me. I have the covers over the gain controls. Once set, I use the mixer control room pot to control gain. I have little fingers (kids) around my stuff. The panels keep them away from the controls.I'd buy it again in a second.--- 5 year update: It's 2020. This amp get used daily. To date, no failures, no problems, nothing unexpected, sounds great!

The fan is very loud, it sounds like a vacuum cleaner. Unusable in a studio setting. Very poor design, and very poor support from ART. There are good amps out there, but not this one! If it was quiet, like ART's description, I'd give it 5 stars, but considering the volume, I have no use for it in my studio.

Sounded good, but the left channel protect circuit/light kept kicking in, with a 4.5 ohm load - it is supposed to be stable to 2 ohms...When I switched cables, it was still the left channel failing, and the right one fine, so I know it was the amp, not the load...Probably I got a defective one, I'm going to send it back, and what the heck go to the SLA2 upgrade while I'm at it.Also, the unit I got had much more fan whine than has been described as typical for these units...And it even looked like the screws were worn, maybe it was really an unannounced "refurbished" unit. The seller via Amazon was "LQI" for this one, so... YMMV, and maybe it wasn't LQI's fault...I'm still a GIANT fan of ART products, the thing is very well designed, and my other ART products are GREAT.Have to say, on sound and design and build, +++, on the bad channel and fan whine, (PROBABLY ONLY THE ONE I GOT...) knocking it to 3 stars... Even if it is just that I got a "bad" one, it speaks to risk of quality control issues.Note, I replaced it with an SLA2, which has NONE of those issues- recommended. Quieter, more power, better designed headsinks for a 1U (front to back rather than side-projecting).Again... My _guess_ is that the SLA1s in _general_ don't have the fan noise issue or the channel going into protect mode issue... so I'm not recommending _against_ this amp... I'm just sayin' that the one I got had some issues.

I'm taking advantage of Analog audio out of my Sony TV Monitor with this unit. It powers a pair of floor standing speakers in a 2.0 configuration and complements a 7.2 system (all speakers from JBL). While this amp has a small fan, one doesn't notice it while in use. It's only when I have shut off the source and go to switch off the unit that I can hear the fan.The sound this little unit provides to my speakers, however, is crisp and (as far as I can tell) distortion free. I'm quite happy with everything from dialog (news, movies, etc) to the clarity of musical instruments. While this unit is relatively inexpensive as compared to other Stereo Amplifiers on the market, a blind test will have you wondering if it was a much more expensive product.

This is a very stable and good performing amp. A good friend recommended it to me and forewarned me of the whine. It does whine but for the price, not bad. Solid performance.
