Primary deck went from being very dirty to hardly producing a picture after cleaning, and now the tape motor grinds and squeals after using this head cleaner. Secondary deck still produces an image, but its significantly worse. I did run the tape through multiple times, thinking that it was just really dirty and needed multiple cleanings, let the unit sit overnight after cleaning so alcohol would evaporate, etc. I think the most telltale example that something is up is that the tape itself is still perfectly white, no dirt at all on the tape. In the future, I will just open a deck up and clean the heads with a qtip and alcohol. Horrible, horrible product.

Perfect. I have an old VcR that I got donated and I’ve gotten it to run after replacing some parts then it would run again after a few days. Turns out I just needed to run a cleaner thro. 10/10 must have

I am so glad this worked for my old toshiba tv/vcr combo i was so sad when it started to glitch like crazy. Luckily it seems like this did the trick and now it's back to playing the VHS tapes NO PROBLEM! Thanks so much!

Horrible. Broke and didn’t turn for more than 2 seconds. Drops didn’t get anything wet and the plastic is cheap. DO NOT BUY.

This thing is extremely cheaply made. The spindles just flop around inside the tape and don't rotate freely. This caused my VCR to repeatedly eject the tape immediately after it was inserted. I tried to rotate the spindles manually and free the tape up. This worked for a few seconds, but eventually my VCR just ate the tape inside. On the plus side, I think the heads did get a little cleaner; I saw some black residue on the tape that was in the shape of the head drum. Nevertheless, I will be returning this cleaner for a refund.

I bought this for my family because we couldn’t watch the tapes. Figured it might have been the very old player. Turned out the player just didn’t work anymore. Tried using it on another player we had but the tape had got stuck inside. Not sure if I misused it. Luckily the tape did not tear! We played our old tapes to watch and it worked, ig we didn’t need it completely. But we have it just in case we ever do.

As a whole, the unit works as advertised. It cleaned up my VHS player that I hadn't used in years. I was able to convert VHS to digital on dozens of home movies. The tapes and the unit were so dirty, I ended up buying multiple cleaners to use after every couple of tapes to keep up the quality of these 30+ year old videos. Especially the first couple, the quality of the video was awful, but after using the cleaning tape (which came out almost black from all the neglect), the quality markedly improved. The caveats:These units are very cheaply made. In order to make them work properly I had to push my finger in the bottom where the gears are (the part you would turn to rewind it, if too much comes out) and then make sure they are centered. Seems the tolerances are too big and the sprocket wheel tends to slide to one side and get stuck when inserted.I also had to take the cover off the VCR because every so often, even using the above procedure, the sprockets wouldn't align properly once inserted and the cleaning tape would spew out into the inside of the unit. There isn't that much cleaning tape, so it wasn't a big issue. Just annoying. Make sure the tape isn't wound around anything important, eject the tape, manually rewind, align the sprockets and insert again. All in all, you get what you pay for and for the price, it did what it was supposed to do, as long as you are willing to do some monkeying around.
