This product is great. Strong magnets keep socket strip in place, whether it be the side of a vehicle or in the tool box. Very pleased with this purchase. Currently own 10-15 of these in different sizes.

I have tried several different methods for organizing my sockets over the years with very mixed results. I wanted my sockets organized on trays so that I could simply grab all of the sockets of one type from my big toolbox and bring it over to my work surface for bigger jobs to save me time from constantly running back and forth. These deliver on that flawlessly! The tray is very sturdy and I've been able to carry around trays filled with even heavier 1/2" impact sockets with no concerns about their integrity. The socket adapters are very secure and hold the sockets in place tightly. The rails slide pretty smoothly so it's easy to get to the individual socket you need at any time. I only have two complaints, one is that the tabs that hold the rails into the trays require a very large amount of force to release, so if you're planning to frequently take the rails off the trays once they're set up I would advise against these. The other complaint I have is the end caps for the rails are not the most durable. I have 10 of these trays with the corresponding rails and have broken at least 3 of the end caps in the process of setting the rails up for use. I'm unsure what the warranty looks like on these, but I imagine trying to get a handful of new end caps would probably be more effort than I'm looking to spend on it. The last issue I've had with them that isn't really a complaint is that if you are going to have several rows of larger sockets (25mm+) on a single tray you probably won't be able to run 3 rows on the tray as there's not enough space between each socket. I really only ran into this with my larger impact sockets and axle nut sockets, so instead I just ran 2 rows each on those trays to give them space.Overall, these are a fantastic option for toolbox organization!

I love this style of socket rails. I own variants from Ares, Olsa and Neiko. The only thing that's irritating is that these rails have only been available in 17" (too long), 10" (too short) and 6" (minimally useful) lengths. I've searched in vain for 12-13" aluminum socket rails, but nobody has made them, until nowI came across this 13" rail set from Ares the other day, and couldn't hit the "Buy Now" button fast enough. These are the same rail design as the 17" models I've been using, are compatible with the same socket clips, and are an absolute bargain for under $13 for a set of 3 with an integrated tray. As you can see from my photos, they're the perfect length to fit standard 1/2" and 3/8" socket sets, with extra room to accommodate a few more clips for adapters. The red 17" rail in my photos shows just how much wasted space there is on the larger rails in comparison.Ares 13" rails are a bit hard to get out of the tray (pro tip: flip the tray over and press to push them out - it's much easier to do it that way). You'll also need a butter knife or flathead screwdriver to pry the plastic retaining clip from the end of the rails, but thankfully you should only have to take the rails apart very infrequently to add or remove socket clips. Once you've set it up the way you like it, it's extremely convenient to just grab the whole tray or pull out individual sockets as you need them. Unlike the 17" rails with the dangly ends, this tray and the individual rails are well balanced when they're fully loaded with sockets. Nice job, ARES! You have a winner here.

I have a lot of sockets - metric and SAE, shallow and deep, 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 drive, regular and impact, specialty Torx and Allen sockets. You get the picture. I had used the old school sliding metal clip/metal rails and they suck because they don't hold sockets tightly, especially larger impact sockets, they tip over and and are generally a nusiance. So I tried the Torin magnetic bottom, twist locking rails and they work well but the magnetic base can be a pain, twisting to lock can be an issue with smaller sockets and the Torins are out of stock frequently..I gave the ARES rails a try and bought 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 inch. They hold all sizes tight, don't tip over and without the magnetic bases, slide around my metal tool box with ease. You really have to yank on the magnetic based rails and that can make it a pain to quickly organize a tool box. The magnetic base rails have their place and I use them from time to time on car frames, trailers and even cycles. The downside ot that practice is remembering that you left a 12 piece 3/i8 set of sockets attacheed to a frame rail before I drive away in the car or bike. I shot a 12 piece rail of 3/8" metric sockets over a 100 yard stretch of the road. Yeah go ahead and say it - tool move.ARES Pro//Con -Pro-Well built, aluminum rail. The sit flat on a work bench or in a tool box and while they will tip over, it's NOT like the older metal clips/rails.-Brightly colored-Hold sockets tightly-Lower price than Torin and other manufacturers rails, especially with the ARES Amazon special pricing deals.-Not "twist lock". I thought that would be a con but it's not. The 1/4" Torin twist lock rails are a pain with smaller 1/4" sockets and greasy hands because it requires a LOT of turing force to attach them to the Torin rail. Another problem with the Torin "twist lock" is if you forget to twist the sockets in place, they go flying when you grab the rail Not so with ARES, just press down and pull up to remove and they don't fly off.Con-Not magnetic - this is a pro and a con depending on the situation as I cited above-Not much else I can think of but I've only been using these rails a few weeks. More to come if I see any good or bad habitsHope that helps - Tretiak
