About this item

  • SPECIFICATIONS: This damaged bolt and stud extractor tool is 3/8-inch drive and can be used with manual or pneumatic impact wrenches and ratchets, quickly and easily removing damaged bolts and studs more efficiently than standard bolt extractors. This bolt extractor fits 1/4 - 1/2-inch (6 - 12mm) studs.
  • DESIGN: Manufactured with high-grade heat-treated alloy steel for maximum durability, this tool also features a chrome finish for additional rust and corrosion protection, with a knurled grip for extra stability. The universal design of this bolt extractor clamps down on the damaged stud for stable and secure removal, and the hexagonal flat can also be used with flat wrenches, adjustable wrenches, sockets, and locking pliers.
  • APPLICATION: Traditional bolt extractors force the user to guess the size of damaged studs, stripping damaged screws and shaving metal off without budging the fastener. This extractor eliminates guesswork by adjusting and clamping to the bolt, saving hours of frustration on broken exhaust manifolds, oil filler plugs, rounded starter bolts, low grade bolts left in saltwater, painted-over bolts, rusted tight bolts, and more.

This tool when properly applied really does its job. I had manifold bolts where I had to cut these manifolds off, exposing the remaining studs. Of course I soaked them with penetrating oil; waited, etc. This tool arrived where I noted it has a lifetime warranty, and I put it to work. I was surprised at how well it removed these 23 year old dudes. Highest recommended tool!!!

I had no Idea this tool existed. I needed something to get a broken exhaust manifold bolt out of the head of my 03 H2. Very tight spot. This tool removed the broken stud with only the effort of installing the tool! I'm extremely impressed and happy I bought The Tool.THANK YOU!

I had to remove head studs from a 40+year old Atomic 4 boat engine. When the double-nut trick wouldn't work, I needed an extractor. This thing is worth its weight in gold! Gripped the stud quickly and didn't slip. If it does start to slip, it automatically tightens. Just be sure that it's as tight as you can get it before starting the extraction process because if it slip, it can cause damage to the threads. This tool does put little "bite marks" on the stud being removed but I chased the threads afterwards and it worked fine. You'll know what I mean because if you're buying this tool, you likely have a good grasp of mechanics. I ruined exactly zero studs with this tool. Highly suggest you liberally soak threads with a penetrating lube, and then tap the top of the stud lightly with a hammer to shock the lube down into the stud threads. Wait, and repeat. If not, you'll run the risk of snapping the stud which is NOT the cause of this tool. And when you start to remove the stud with this tool, I highly suggest you continue to add lube down in the threads. If they're really frozen in there, you are advised to proceed with an "unscrew 1/4 turn, then tighten 1/8 turn" process, and so on, until the stud is fully removed. Again, a fairly priced, specialized tool that's worth it's weight in gold.

I had a stripped water pump stud that would not budge. Tried using a multigrips, heating the stud and welding on a bolt. None of these methods worked. I then purchased the ARES bolt extractor in desperation and it worked as described.

This thing is surprisingly good at what it's for. I didn't have a lot of expectations for these cheap internet brands like Ares, Tekton, etc., but this thing is tough and handles a huge amount of torque.I am a diesel tech and the first time I used this extractor was to remove 12mm studs on a road-salt truck. These salt trucks get so rusty and beat up, the studs were practically welded in place. I used this tool in conjunction with a long 1/2" ratchet with a 2 foot cheater pipe on it to remove the studs. They were a BEAR to get out, but this tool didn't slip once. The harder you pull, the tighter it grabs. I was very impressed. Now, keep in mind, this does severely damage the threads of the stud you're pulling, so I wouldn't use it one something I needed to re-use the studs with. Also, it is a little bit large and so you do need some clearance to use it. Don't count on it working in tight spaces, or where the stud is within maybe 3/4 inch of an obstruction. Further, it did give significant wear on the inner pieces that grab, but I've used it since and still works fine. Hopefully when I do need to replace it, the company will be easy to deal with concerning a warranty because it does supposedly have a lifetime guarantee (but I've learned some companies are just all talk - here's looking at you, Grey Pneumatic). Even if they don't honor that though, I'd still probably buy it again at this price point.
