Aran Crafts Ireland

How do I care for my new garment?

The golden rule is wash as seldom as possible and air frequently.

We call this ‘wind-washing’, hang your garment out in the air and you will be amazed at how fresh it becomes. Never machine wash; they should be washed by hand using wool washing detergent and in cool water below 30 degrees Celsius. Always dry your jumper flat and never put in a tumble drier.

How to stop moths from destroying my sweater?

Check your garments occasionally to make sure that you don’t have a moth or moisture problem. Perspiration and food stains attract moths. Brushing your jumper with a wool brush can loosen eggs, and simply popping your jumper into the freezer before you store it will kill them. Another tip is to store your sweater in a sealed clean plastic bag. This will prevent moths from attacking it.

What if I need to Wash my Sweater?

If you feel that you need to wash your jumper soak it in a cold hand wash liquid/powder for 3-5 minutes. Gently squeeze excess water off, never wring, twist or rub. To dry, roll the jumper in a towel to get rid of excess water. Pull into shape and dry flat.

What do the different stitches of the Aran sweater mean? Different Patterns Have a History:

  • Cable Stitch: Symbolizes fisherman’s ropes and represents a wish for a fruitful day at sea.
  • Cable Stitch: Symbolizes fisherman’s ropes and represents a wish for a fruitful day at sea.
  • Diamond Stitch: Signifies a small farms throughout the island and some believe it represents wealth.
  • Trellis Stitch: Represents the stone walls of Ireland.
  • Blackberry Stitch: Some believe that this has a link to religion.
  • Moss stitch: This is the symbol of nature all around us.
  • Honeycomb Stitch: This represents the hard working bee, signifying the hard work of the fisherman.

If you have never owned a high quality sweater, you've met your match with this one. Nicely packaged, has weight, beatufiyl stitching. Now, be mindful it does smell, BUT that is the lanolin. I can tell this is a high quality pure wool sweater due to the smell . I don't care for the smell but I wanted high quality and I got it.to the seller, what can I do to get the smell out?can you recommend a spray?

First winter in six years my boy did not get a cold and it was a cold winter this year, nothing beats wool, am a customer for life.... Forget polyester and other plastic garbage on the market wool is best sure you pay but it lasts 3 times as long and child's health is worth every penny and worth the extra effort of cold water hand washing and slow drying.- no more cheap crap winter clothes for my boy...

The sweater is beautiful and the wool is soft and the green color is beautiful. I bought a large size for my grandson to grow into. Even though there is plenty of room for a couple of year's growth in the body, the hood barely covers the back half of his head. I am very disappointed.

Nice sweater, good price. Bought the largest size for my granddaughter who is twelve and takes a size 12. It will fit her this year. Would have liked a little bigger so it would last a few years but I would have had to buy a women’s small and the price was at least $50 more
