Product Features

Higher Flow Rates

Aqueon filters have higher flow rates than the competition to ensure proper turnover for cleaner water and higher dissolved oxygen content, making fish healthier and more active.

Superior Biological Filtration

The patented biological grid has a large surface area to support more of the beneficial bacteria that eliminates ammonia and nitrates. A second wet/dry grid provides further biological filtration and oxygenation as the water returns to the aquarium.

Internal Pump Design

Since the filter pump is submersed in the aquarium, there is no need for priming at setup or when restarting the filter after cleaning or power interruptions. An internal pump also allows for virtually silent operation, continuous flow raters, less chance for leaks, and a much thinner profile.

Four Stage Advanced Filtration System

Stage 1: Dense floss removes particles and debris.

Stage 2: Activated carbon removes toxins, odors and discoloration.

Stage 3: Patented Bio-Holster removes toxic ammonia and nitrites.

Stage 4: Diffuser grid removes additional toxins while adding oxygen for more active fish. It also reduces splashing makes the return exceptionally quiet.

This arrived on time and works as described. $20 cheaper than my local pet store. It is very quiet due to the motor being submerged in the tank itself. I would recommend.

kept my 55 gallon tank clear for years without changing out the water. Just occasionally cleaning the rocks

It was working perfectly fine until today. Purchased May 9th, can't return after June 9th, breaks down on June 23 thankfully my husband could fix it but now it makes way more noise.

This is the first overflow filter I've shopped for after getting past the 50gal hump of aquarium husbandry. The fact that I only need one pump for a 75gal tank baffles me when I look at the crystal clear water it keeps clean all by itself. I even have some Oscar fish that can really make a lot of... debris... to test the unit. But lo and behold, the dual filter pack and high flow power head make little work of what some dog walkers would want to use a scoop and bag for. Great price point vs functionality. Set up was a breeze as the unit was factory fresh and with very little clicking and locking and stretching the cord out straight, this unit was ready for it's home on the back of the tank.

Many people find this pretty noisy. It will create a waterfall if the water level isn't right up to the top of the tank. But it really circulates the water and aerates it. Fish are happy.Filters are easy to replace. Mine go out when the trash goes out, so I don't care if the red light is on yet or not.Besides being wider, it requires much more clearance behind the tank than smaller Aqueon filters. I had to move the tank away from the wall. The "leveler" isn't really large enough to level the filter, and the silicone padding band around it is certain to break. I anticipate sticking some other larger plastic item back there when that happens, like a water jug cap.Like other Aqueon filters, it offers the option of sticking the intake tube into the upright portion of an undergravel filter, if you want to use it instead of a bubbler.

I have owned 3 of these filters all different sizes from smallest to this one. Before buying the aqueon filters I tried all the so called best out there fluval included. None have performed like these. They make noise sure but running water does. The bathtub isn't quiet when you fill it is it? They are easy to clean, powerful and keeps my tanks crystal clear. I have a variety of fish who swim and school happily became of the clean water they are swimming in. You will see when you change the filter cartridge what crap it takes from your tank. I change mine every 4 to 6 weeks. I highly recommend it, and will continue to buy them if I need to. My first is still going and it's been 4 years now.

Update!Used this filter for a couple years and it ended up finally tanking out. Bought it again this last week and working as it should and happy Oscar fish. The motor ended up melting and stopped working. Pretty sure my water level was a little low (oops). Same as the below review. Obviously not silent. Same buzz coming from top lid. But i like the filter and it keeps my tank clean for a VERY VERY dirty breed of fish.(Original)Honest review! This filter does fine. Not 5 stars but i like it!This filter does well for my Oscar tank. It is able to filter out a ton of the massive amount my year old Oscar will throw in waste. It does have an annoying buzz come from the top lid. Just tap it and it's gone for a couple days or more. Not really a massive issue. Also It's not silent. You can tell it's running.I upgraded to this model for extra filtration and instantly saw a change in how clear my water was. Suction was good enough. I do a good bit of water changes and cleaning anyways so i didn't need it to be a vacuum. The filters get filthy fast... Which is positive because it means it is doing the job.One last word would be that you need to pay attention to if the power goes out or also larger fish could hit the filter intake and knock it off. Easy to fix and put back but apparently it can bother the motor. My Oscar hits it on occasion and it makes a crazy loud noise... So i am well aware when it happens.Easy to set up and use. Easy to clean. Simple large filter. If you are a fish keeper this is a solid filter. Nothing flashy. Easy to use. Give it a shot!

It filters just fine, but I would expect it to since...well...it's a filter. But it also makes a claim to be quiet and it is NOT! After a few weeks it started buzzing. I took it apart and made sure everything was nice and clean. I've had this noise happen with filters in the past and lubricating the impeller usually works. It didn't work with this, although I did notice a difference, so I know that the impeller is involved in the noise. It's probably also the motor which is not something I can fix. The running water sound is also really annoying. And NO, I don't have my water too low. I keep my water high and in fact just tried adding one more gallon to my 55 gallon tank to see if it would help at all. I had to remove that gallon I added because my bubbler made the water bubble over the side a bit, so my water level really was already high. I bought this filter because it was supposed to be quiet. My aquarium is in my bedroom, so a quiet filter is really important to me. I can handle just the simple sound of a filter running - like a simple motor sound, but this new buzzing sound is ridiculously irritating and I can't shut the water up. I haven't had the running water sound problem with any of the past 4 filters I've had. I just wanted to be able to sleep better at night - peace for me and health and safety for my babies in the tank, but alas, I'm up peeing half the night because of the stupid running water and I'm running out of aspirin for the headache this buzzing sound has given me. Just a few more days until YET ANOTHER filter arrives (trying a tetra this time) and hope that this one doesn't turn out to be crap after 3 weeks as well. If this next one doesn't work, I'm going DIY! If you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself. Obviously it's too much to ask for a company to be able to actually deliver on the claims they make. 2 stars only because the filter does actually run, but like I said, that's the least I expect from a filter.Update 3/4/2014:Decided to run this filter on a tank downstairs so I couldn't hear it. I gave two stars before because it at least ran. It doesn't now. It's totally clean, there doesn't seem to be a problem with the impeller, it just crapped out.
