Works great but a little messy. I wish the bottle had a squeeze top like one of those generic clear ketchup/mustard bottle. Other than that it is great. image looks brighter and more clear bc it is completely adhered to the glass with no gaps.

The Aquarium Background Gel turned out to be a great solution for applying a seamless, bubble-free background to my fish tank. I’ve used tape and other adhesives in the past, but they always left gaps or peeled over time. This gel, however, provided a smooth and clear application that really enhanced the look of my aquarium. Applying it was pretty straightforward. I just spread a thin, even layer on the back of the tank and pressed the background against it, smoothing out any air bubbles. The clear and bright finish made the colors pop much more than when I used tape, giving my tank a crisp, professional appearance. One of the things I appreciate is that it’s odorless. Some adhesives have a strong chemical smell, but this one didn’t, making the application process much more pleasant. It also doesn’t leave a sticky residue, which is a big plus if I ever want to switch backgrounds in the future. The 1 oz (30ml) bottle was enough to cover my 20-gallon tank, and I still had some leftover. For larger tanks, a second bottle might be needed. The gel also dries well without yellowing, so it doesn’t affect the look of the background over time.

WHY DID I ORDER THIS: I have a 20 gallon fish tank that has needed a nice background. I’ve been reading the nightmare stories about getting backgrounds to stay in place behind your fish tank. I came across this stuff and figured I would give it a try.WHAT’S THE GOOD: okay so I purchased a fish tank stick-on background. Of course the directions for the peel and stick background was that you only needed a mist of water to attach it. Well I had read too many bad things about that technique I knew I didn’t want to waste my time.So I read the instructions about how to use this gel and I went from there. I used the little brush that comes with it and LIGHTLY applied a coating to the entire back of the tank. A little goes a long way so don’t over do it!!I then took the fish tank backing and slowly pressed it to the back of the tank right onto this gel surface. I made sure to push all over the back to remove the air bubbles and then that was it! It has been stuck on now for over 2 weeks and it is perfect!!! I did want to wait to write this review until I knew if it was going to peel off or what.WHAT’S THE BAD: Nothing bad!!! I highly recommend this stuff!!!Follow the directions like I did and hopefully it will work just as easy as it did for me! I am very happy!!!

My background looks ao much better! I had tried a couple times to get my background to look good without air bubbles and actually on the glass. I tried taping it and using a tiny bit of oil. This works so much better and although not perfect it looks amazing. It was quite easy to put on. It has stuck on the glass for the most part with only a couple small spots on the edge lifting up. I used a credit card to push the air bubbls out and have only a few tiny bubbles left. I used this for 29 gallon aquarium and used about half the bottled which was plenty.

I tried to use it on a 48"x21" background. I wish I knew how large a background one tube of the gel would cover. Initially I used a light coat, but that wasn't enough to hold the background up. A thicker coat seemed to hold up better, but I was afraid of running out of gel. The gel is slippery so the background can be moved around to align it better with the tank. The brush was handy to spread the gel around. I wish the gel came in a squeeze tube. I decent amount of gel was lost by just pouring it out of the bottle.

This gel paired well with my self adhesive aquarium wallpaper. Gave the adhesive extra support and after two days it’s holding up nicely! The gel is easy to work with and a little goes a long way!

I did not want to start using this on the full background of my aquarium until I tested it so I cut a small piece from a couple old backgrounds. One was of the newer fabric types and the other was the normal shiny plastic poster type. I cleaned the glass where I was going to put these, then spread the solution on the pieces themselves since they were only small pieces rather than the entire side. There is a nice little brush included with the solution. I pressed them on the glass and waited a few hours to check them. The plastic piece actually fell off once but I put it back on with more solution and it stayed. I think because it had a little wrinkle in it from being stored and so it didn't adhere as closely. I have heard of putting Vaseline on the glass or a light coating of oil and those would work similar to this, however this does clean off very nicely when you remove the background. After I took them off I cleaned the glass with window cleaner sprayed on a paper towel and you couldn't tell it had been on there. By using this solution, it does enhance your background and make it bright as opposed to not using anything. It is not a glue, like some other types of background adhesives I've seen so I like that about it. I think it is worth trying and there is no danger of messing up your aquarium by doing so.
