Sponge Filter
Sponge filter uses bubbles of air from an external air pump, or an integral water pump to draw water through the sponge.
The sponge need to be rinsed about every 2 to 4 weeks. It’s helpful to wash the sponge gently with water from the fish tank instead of tap water.
It is good to replace the sponge after 3 to 6 months’ usage as the holes of sponge is gradually clogged by the tiny debris.

I love sponge filters for breeding tanks, shrimp tanks or just seeding fish tanks as these quickly get the good bacteria to jumpstart a new fish tank. Out of the box you can have this up and running quickly! This doesn't float around and will stay where you place it without having to add anything heavy on top of it. This is 100% as advertised!

I have a 20 gallon long I wanted to put this filter in and, be warned.....this unit is JUST a tad taller than the rim of a 20 gallon long. That said, the back of my tank doesn't have a lid so I made it work.The other minor issue is that the output is pretty strong and therefor loud. I solved this by putting a sponge baffle that you put on the intake of an HOB filter on the output of this filter, and it makes a nice little subtle fountain sound. Of course if your tank was deeper you could just put the output under water, but you still might need to baffle it with slow fish or with something like a betta.All that, I still love this filter so far. I love that I can have a small fish and shrimp safe sponge filter WITHOUT having to add the noise of an air pump. The ceramic media balls are great, and the unit comes with an entire extra set of sponges. I have a shoal of teeny little rasboras and they are doing great with this filter. I'd definitely buy another.

Like the title says this was a surprising filter for me. My standards were low and this filter blew my expectations out of the water. This filter has a good amount of suction vs others I have used where you can watch tiny debris float by and never get picked up but this one grabs them pieces no problem but isn't so strong that it bothers my guppy fry or shrimp. The output on this filter is great and I love that it actually moves water around. I can't speak on longevity of this filter because I've only been running it a few weeks but I'm hoping it lasts and acceptable amount of time because I'm liking it quite well.

This is a great filter for any smaller fresh or saltwater tank. I am currently using it in my baby clownfish (Finding Nemo) grow tank.
