Changed this in my 2016 Volkswagen Passat 1.8TIt’s not easy to get to and takes a lot of time, patience and specialty tools. So not something you want to do often. Well this actuator worked great for almost 2 months then started twitching and going into uncommanded positions. On full cold it was modulating back and forth and then going full hot. The issue is not with a plenum door hanging up or getting stuck. It’s doing the same thing with the arm disconnected. Based on the time and effort it takes to replace this actuator I would stay far away from this brand and get something more reliable.

The tabs that stick out from the white lever arm are too wide for the linkage so I simply used a box knife and trimmed them to fit.As for difficulty, the aluminum support bracket above the accelerator pedal is the most difficult part to remove. There are (2) 10mm nuts that fix the bracket to the crash bar behind the cluster which you can reach while laying on your back on the floor. My car has dual climate control and there are 2 actuators behind the support bracket. The top one is for the windshield defrost control; the bottom one for the driver's side temperature. Replace them both while you're in there.

Yes, it FITS the place to mount it on, but the arm doesn't fit the unit. That's the whole reason why you need this, to actuate the arm. Both this and other aftermarket units don't Work. you could file the arm but seriously... Chinese crap, which is strange because the original unit is even made in china- and a total ripoff from VW- at nearly $200.

This thing is a pain to install. I recommend paying for All-Data access to properly disassemble the relevant dash components to have access to both screws on this thing. Be careful not to break the arm of the old actuator; you will be using it since the keyway arms on this replacement part are too wide to fit in the linkage to the blend door. Luckily the arm pulls out easily and can be replaced with the original one.It does work and I have heat again. I thought I was going to have to replace the heater core, but this was the culprit.

So, two weeks ago there was a hot side and cool side of my vehicle because of the blend door motor failed on me while in St Louis in 90 degree weather. I found out exactly what the issue was from scanning my 2016 VW Passat SE with ODB 11 tool. It told me exactly what the issue was, I ordered the part then had someone to install it. It took them 45 minutes to install then awe....My dual climate control was working just as well as it did coming from the factory.

It works like a charm, but if you are a insistent DIYer be ready to take your time with the installation. I have a VW Passat and VW hides the part behind so many other parts that it is almost inaccessible. Then when you do reach it you only have a tight tiny amount of space to work in. You can, however, get the job done with patience, perseverance and a little savvy. Updated with additional info. After all that hard work, this replacement part didn't even last a year I bought it in May 2021 and now, March 2022, I need another.
