What Is Espresso?
Espresso is a full-flavored, concentrated form of coffee that is served in “shots.” It is made by forcing pressurized, hot water through very finely ground coffee beans. This process is called “pulling a shot.”
Unlike most coffees, espressos have “crema.” This is a froth of reddish-brown color that forms when air bubbles combine with the soluble oils of a fine-ground coffee. The crema adds to the rich flavor and alluring aroma of espresso. Oftentimes, the crema is a mark of a proper espresso made with a quality, perfectly ground coffee.
Crema and espresso’s quick extraction process give espresso a fuller flavor, longer aftertaste and lower caffeine content than drip coffee. These styles of consumption form the vast majority of drinks we recognise on menus; from the beloved cappuccino to the refined flat white.
What is a demitasse cup?
You may think of them as "espresso cups," but the real name for the small coffee cup that commonly holds espresso is a "demitasse cup." These tiny white cups can be seen in restaurants, cafes, and coffee houses throughout the world.
Demitasse (dem-E-tas) is French for "half cup." This small coffee cup holds about 2-3 fluid ounces (60-90 mL). They are half the size of a regular coffee cup, hence the name "half cup."
Demitasse is French, and the same cup goes by different names depending on where you are in the world.

This is an attractive, practical, no-frills espresso set -- just what I was looking for. It comes with 4 cups, 4 saucers and 4 tiny spoons. As a small extra benefit, the cups stack for storage.

This set remind us of the espresso cups, saucers and spoons we have seen all over Italy. It makes us feel like we are back in a small Italian town drinking espresso at the counter with the locals. We also saw similar ones in Michelin Star restaurants. Simply put, these have an authentic feel - simple clean lines, bright white, nice handle. Stacks neatly and evenly. For the price I expected junky little spoons with rough edges, but the spoons are shiny and smooth and really bring this set up to the next level. I considered giving this a 4-star because the first set arrived very damaged, and the replacement set had a crack in one cup. This is surprising because the set comes attractively packaged in a box with excellent snug-fitting padding. Maybe the box itself needs to be bigger or sturdier or the fault may actually lie with Amazon’s shipping methods or the drivers’ carelessness - I cannot say who is at fault. I will say the company provided excellent customer care. I didn’t notice a crack on one of the cups in the second set until 3 days after the return window, but I contacted them for a replacement cup in case they would make an exception to the return policy. A couple days later a whole new set arrived at no cost to me with no request from the company to return the original set. Bottom line: I am giving a 5 star review because the set is nice quality, a good value for the money, authentically charming, and there was such good customer. Hopefully they can figure out what is happening in the shipping process.

Shinny and great quality little spoons.Cons: This one is just me and it's why I gave it only a 4 * rating. I would prefer the cups to be only about 1 oz larger. I do like the small size, but an extra oz. would give me 4 oz of drinking liquid without any overflowing during movement.
