I'm not super impressed with this, but it works okay. The audio quality is intelligible (and a huge upgrade from bluetooth mic audio) but nothing you'd want to use for even semi-professional recording. The boom is stiff hard to adjust, but reasonably stable once you get it how you want it. The most annoying part was getting it to stick to my headphones, though - as other reviews have mentioned, the included adhesive disks are completely useless and do not stick to any surface, no matter how clean. I cut out a piece of Command wall-hanging strip instead, and that worked quite well.Clips are included to keep the microphone and headphone cords hooked together, and these fit my headphone cord just fine, but I don't think there were nearly enough of them in the package to really keep the cords from getting tangled and snagged, so I might have to augment them with velcro ties or something. As a way to add a mic to a high-quality pair of headphones for gaming in particular, I think this product succeeds at what it's trying to do. If you like to hear your games in high quality, but are having trouble finding a pair of good headphones that includes a mic, then this lets you bodge a mediocre mic onto essentially anything. Don't expect it to be professional-quality, though.I ultimately feel like this product is a little on the overpriced side for what it is. I would expect similar quality from an entire headset that cost this much, but here you're only getting a microphone and a rather inadequate set of mounting accessories that you will have to DIY your way around. I think it was still worth it to me as a way to make my good headphones conveniently usable for online gaming, but I wouldn't consider it a particularly good value.

have never written a product review before but this deserves it.excellent build quality. was worried when i saw all the bonus items in the box that they'd attempted to provide an illusion of luxury while cheaping out on the product. after some use my suspicions were quelled - it's clear the people behind this mic opted to garner sales through offering an uncompromising product rather than cutting corners on a fancy design. solid and practical build, audio quality excellent for a 3.5mm mic (anything other format requires £300 set up). you'll sound better than most you tube channels, especially if you know how to do some simple EQ editing. i owned an similar mic from audio technica (£15 more) and this beats it out in every category.one thing id say is that id use superglue to attach the mount rather than the included sticky pads - theres no existing peelable adhesive that can stand up to wear and tear (they still include THREE tho)

For context I have paired this with an Audio Technica ATH R70x (a Japanese open-back reference headphones with good soundstage and positioning that is being sold on amazon for about $350). The mic is used mainly for gaming. The headphones for music listening and gaming. Both are connected to a Sound Blaster AE-9 (a really nice sound card).I purchased this mic to keep my current headphone (love its sound signature) and avoid mayor spending on a good combo set.So as a gamer perspective, great audio quality as is! My Helldivers 2 team actually noticed the improvement and clarity of my voice and asked my if I had changed my mic. I haven't used any audio enhancement from my sound card. This mic falls to the expensive side of the spectrum as you could buy a cheap lavalier mic for $10 of a full headphone + mic gaming set for the price of this mic. However you could also spend 20 times it's price and only get a 30% improvement on specs.... That doesn't necessarily makes it worthwhile but this is not the most expensive stuff.By the way, regarding quality, I was explained by may teammates that you could get away with a cheaper alternatives by enhancing audio with software. However on gaming you want your compute resources dedicated to get more FPS.The sticker that comes with te mic is good enough. I have been using it since the end of September 2024 without failing. The mic doesn't add noticeable weight to the headphone. My headphones are very light weighted so this mic is perfect for me.

Finally got the mic to stick to my headset. Had to use super glue. What comes with the mic is garbage. Now that I can test the mic, it sounds horrible. Comparable to a $5 headset from a call center.Feels good gluing a $5 mic to my $400 headset.

The ModMic Uni 2 has to be one of the worst products that I've ever purchased. As an audiophile, finding the "next best" has always been (and always will be) an endless endeavour, and as such, I am always on a search to find new equipment to fit my needs. After not finding satisfaction with the PC38X, I decided to go "full audiophile" and got a DT 1770 PRO for purely gaming. Because it doesn't come with a mic., I chose the Antlion Audio ModMic to fill the void. Boy, did I make the wrong bet.For context, I am using Schiit Fulla E as my gaming DAC/for amplification needs. This thing worked perfectly fine with the PC38X (using the split cables since it doesn't accept 3.5mm TRRS to 1/4"). However, when I connected the DT 1770 PRO via 1/4" and the ModMic Uni 2 via 3.5mm port independently, I didn't see good results whatsoever. While there were no issues with the headphones themselves, the mic. had brought on an onslaught of complaints from my friends. Mainly, the fact that it was "clipping out" near the top. More specifically, when I would talk (not even yell), my friends agreed that my voice would become scratchy, static-y, and distorted at a certain volume level. At first, I thought it was a Discord issue, but after some troubleshooting, I found out that it was a ModMic issue. I went into Windows > Sound > Recording > ModMic Uni 2 Properties > Listen > 'Listen to this device' to see how I would sound with no applications, and no voice enhancements, and they were right. I even recorded myself using Audacity, and it kept clipping out anytime I'd talk. I tried lowering the mic. volume gain within Windows Sound settings, and even that was futile due to how extremely sensitive these mic. were. Basically, unless I was whispering like an ASMR content creator, my voice was distorting, even at regular speaking volumes. I tried the front jack of my PC case (that supports both 3.5mm TRS and TRRS) to use the onboard motherboard DAC, and funnily enough, it wasn't even recognized within Windows. Using process of elimination, I was able to rule out every single component, one by one, and the only feasible source of this issue pointed towards the ModMic Uni 2 every time. Because there wasn't an "exchange" option with this item, I even purchased a 2nd set of Uni 2 to see if it was only the first product that was defective, but it wasn't. The 2nd Uni 2 I purchased did the exact same thing and again, unless I was whispering OR placing the mic. at least 4 ft. (yes, feet, not inches) away from my mouth, this was going to distort and clip my voice regardless. I mean, it could've just be a bad "batch" of Uni 2s, but clearly, speculation or not, the quality control was not there, and I was severely disappointed.Even if the ModMic Uni 2 worked as intended via the external DAC/Amp, the fact that it costs approx. $80 (at the time of this review) for THIS, is a joke. Not only did 2 adhesives (1 pre-attached, 1 included extra) out of the 3 total fall off within just a few hours, their mic. mute switch creates an intensely annoying and audible static and "click" for everyone to hear. Interestingly enough, on the Astro A40s, they also have a wire with a mute button, yet, that one works quietly, quickly, and a lot more effectively compared to this where it clicks, crackles, and causes its own interference sounds for everyone to hear. Then there are the included clips to keep the wires together. It's good that they included them, but depending on what your headphone cables are like, it's absolutely possible they may not fit because they are not thick enough. Thankfully, the Beyerdynamic DT 1770 PRO factory cables are thick, but I've seen reviews where other slimmer/thinner factory cables don't, so it makes no sense that the clips were size-restricted.At the end of the day, I have NOTHING good to say about the ModMic Uni 2. Every "feature" they intended as part of the product have either failed to perform, or worked just to fail shortly thereafter. It's such a shame because the product makes sense "on paper", but it has zero synergy with other products people may pair this with (i.e. DAC/Amps), and it was clear to me the quality control here was non-existent. If you are in similar shoes where you have a pair of dedicated headphones (with no mic.) for gaming, and you cannot use an external USB/XLR microphone, then I would suggest going with the ModMic USB 2, which is a far better product than this garbage. The only caveat is that ModMic USB 2 will be another 1.5x the cost of this monstrous abomination.

I work remotely and am on calls from my PC throughout the day. This new ModMic has been a huge upgrade for me, personally and professionaly. No longer am I wearing the ghastly mid-grade work-supplied "gaming" headset which squashes my ears, aches my head, garbles my voice, and saps my very will to remain conscious at all, which of course affects the various meetings I'm forced to be in. No longer - enter the ModMic!I've had it hooked up for a very short time to my beloved Sennheiser open-back over-ear headphones, and already it's a huge improvement to both the general quality and clarity of calls (excellent audio from the ModMic, and of course studio-grade audio from the Senns - how do people tolerate these gaming headsets I cannot fathom), and a big improvement to my general demeanor. Colleagues have already commented on these positive changes! The simplicity of the design is appreciated: while previously I was sporting the garish and distracting neon green (and *glowing*, for heaven's sake!) gaming headset, with a massive boom mic in front of my face (to what end do they make these mics so BIG -- why? Do they imagine their target consumer feels the need to subtly overcompensate for diminished stature elsewhere?), the ModMic is stylishly and confidently minimalistic yet eminently functional. As my colleagues in the UK would say: "it does what it says on the tin" and it does it elegantly. The build quality is excellent. The design is thoughtful - spare clips included so you can use the ModMic on multiple sets of headphones without any fuss. Ample cable length, with clips to lead it along my existing headphone cable - no further mess of individual cords. Easy mute switch well-located. Cord non-tangly so far!Thank you AntLion Audio team for designing and building an excellent product with the ModMic Uni 2. Highly recommended.
