About this item

  • Professional stereo microscope with boom stand has long working distance to enable users to perform work or manipulate large items, including circuit boards and dental appliances
  • Binocular viewing head with pair of 10x super-widefield eyepieces, adjustable interpupillary distance, fixed 45-degree vertical inclination to reduce eye and neck strain, and 360-degree rotation capability to enable sharing
  • 0.7x-4.5x zoom objective provides continuous zoom magnification and longer focal length for inspecting large-scale specimens, and a 0.5x Barlow lens extends the working distance
  • Removable rheostat-controlled 80-bulb LED ring light provides intensity control and bright, cool light for working with temperature-sensitive or live specimens
  • Single boom arm with 8" vertical working distance and adjustable 16" boom arm enables users to adjust the microscope on the X- and Y-axes

The AmScope SM-3BX-80S professional stereo zoom microscope has a pair of 10x super-widefield high-eyepoint eyepieces, a 0.7x-4.5x zoom objective, a 0.5x Barlow lens, and a single-arm boom stand. The microscope has an overall magnification range of 3.5x-45x. The binocular viewing head has an interpupillary range of 55 to 75mm, a 45-degree inclination to reduce eye and neck strain, and 360-degree rotation to enable sharing. The WH10x20mm super-widefield high-eyepoint eyepieces combine with the 0.7x-4.5x zoom objective to provide continuous zoom magnification and a longer working distance for inspecting large-scale specimens that require handling or repair. The microscope includes a 0.5x Barlow lens that can be added to the objective to decrease the magnification range. A Barlow lens with a magnification of less than 1.0 reduces magnification and increases the working distance. High-eyepoint eyepieces ease viewing for users who wear glasses, and dioptric adjustment accommodates individual eye-strength differences. A stereo microscope, sometimes called an inspection or dissection microscope, has low magnification and a long working distance that enables users to manipulate the object being inspected.

The removable 80-bulb LED ring light provides bright, cool light for working with temperature-sensitive or live specimens. The ring light provides shadow-free illumination, and a rheostat controls the amount of light emanating from the lamp. Power and adjustment controls are located on the light head. The light has a 100,000-hour life span and a 90V-265V variable power supply. The microscope has a 17" pillar that has an 8" vertical working distance. The 16" single-arm boom has a 24" overall length. Bilateral focus eases use for left- and right-handed users. The microscope head can be rotated on the X- and Y-axes. The solid cast-steel base is 1-3/4 x 9 x 9 inches (H x W x D, where H is height, the vertical distance from the lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back).

Microscopes are instruments used to enhance the resolution of an object or image. Types include compound, stereo, or digital. Compound microscopes use a compound optical system with an objective lens and an eyepiece. Stereo microscopes show object depth in a three-dimensional image. Digital microscopes are used to display an image on a monitor, rather than looking through a lens. Microscopes can have monocular (one), binocular (two), or trinocular (three) eyepieces, with varying magnification abilities. Magnification ability refers to the size of an image. Resolution, also known as resolvant power, refers to the clarity of the image. The interaction between field of view (FOV), numerical aperture (NA), and working distance (WD) determines resolution. Microscopes can control magnification through a fixed focus, or through a range of adjustments. They can also utilize LED, fluorescent, and mirror light sources to help control viewing capabilities. Microscopes are widely used in education, lab research, biology, metallurgy, engineering, chemistry, manufacturing, and in the medical, forensic science, and veterinary industries.

United Scope manufactures microscopy equipment and accessories under the brand name AmScope. The company, founded in 1996, is headquartered in Irvine, CA.

I love the microscope. Excellent quality, solid stand. My only regret is that I didn't spend a little more and get the camera attachment.

I was in the market for a scope for jewelry work and hand engraving and wanted one that was good for zooming out to a large field of view and zooming in for fine details. This was way better for the price vs the higher end competitors like Leica and was way more affordable. Assembly was super easy and didn't need the instruction manual because the photo from Amazon was the instructions. Very easy to assemble. Highly recommend this product to anyone in the market for a good microscope for jewelry, Stine setting, engraving, or even anyone who works on circuit boards. It's very versatile. Thanks!

I'm very happy with my AmScope purchase. It made of high quality materials and has excellent optical quality as well. So why only 4 stars? After using it a little bit, I discovered that the single arm model has a down side. When you loosen the adjustment to move the arm horizontally (closer / further from the base), it also allows the arm to rotate around its axis. This is inconvenient if you have the head offset of the centerline of the boom - it will want to rotate as soon as you loosen the adjustment. Ideally, you'd like to be able to move the arm back and forth freely while working, but because of the rotational issue, it's necessary to keep the adjusting nuts tightened at all times except when actually moving the head. I decided I wanted to exchange the unit for a dual arm unit, which wouldn't have the rotational issue. . I took off one star because of the rotation, which may or may not be an issue for you. If you're keeping it in a fixed position most of the time, you may not care and can save the extra cost of the dual arm model.I have to say that the AmScope customer service was outstanding. They went out of their way to help me get what I wanted, and were most helpful with smoothing the details of the transaction.

I have been using this scope for six months and can safely say that this is a real industrial-grade inspection scope. Optics are perfect for my use. For electronics inspection/re-work, this scope is as good as other manufacture's models I have used, but that cost 4x as much. The zoom and focus knobs on the AmScope are plastic, but they seem plenty durable.

Great microscope from AmScope. After buying mine I had to replace the head as I was wanting to record video and a trinocular head would be a lot more convenient. Spoke with AmScope directly and they made the exchange process fast and pain free. Love this microscope.

very clear well lit field of view! The base is heavy and actually allows you to extend the scope out without the entire thing tipping over; this means you can actually "look" at your work without the instrument actually getting in the way of putting your hands on the work.being able to keep my glasses on while using the instrument is much more convenient than a headset or loupe ;-)It is not "cheap" but its well worth the money.

This is my first microscope of this kind so I really cant compare, but the build is solid and the illumination is really good. The model I got is the SM-3BX-80S. It comes with a 0.5X aux (Barrow) objective just in case you need to cut down on the magnification. The only snag was the manual that came in the box was a generic factory manual that covered entirely different models. So I decided to download one. The support section of the AmScope site will ask you to enter a password before you can download a manual. The password is on a sticker on your shipping box. I entered it, and the download turned out to be a manual for the SM7 series --which was still not the correct one. HOWEVER, after a quick live chat with a rep on the AmScope site, the rep emailed me the correct manual. My model came with a dust cover --a little item the description did not mention.

This is simply the best scope you can get for the price. I am a botanist and work with stereoscopes every day, and the optics of this is stunning. All the pieces are really good quality. Just be aware that the base that holds everything is a really heavy piece of metal, a pain to transport.
