The AmScope PS50 microscope slide set includes 50 prepared slides of a variety of specimens including plants, insects, and animal tissues used in basic biology education. The samples are preserved in cedar wood oil and sealed with a coverslip to preserve specimens. Labeling on each slide identifies specimens. Slides are composed of optical glass for clear viewing and are 3 x 1 x 0.4 inches/75 x 25 x 1mm (H x W x D, where H is height, the vertical distance from the lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.) The set comes in a fitted wooden case to prevent breakage and ease handling.

Slide specimens include ascaris egg(whole mount), Aspergillus (whole mount), coprinus mushroom set (cross section), cotton stem (cross section), Cucurbita stem (longitudinal section), dandelion fuzz (whole mount), dense connective tissue (section), dog cardiac muscle (longitudinal section), dog esophagus (cross section), dog skeletal, muscle (longitudinal section and cross section), dog small intestine (section), dog smooth muscle (longitudinal section and cross section), dog squamous epithelium (whole mount), dog stomach (section), drosophila-female (whole mount), drosophila-male (whole mount), honeybee leg (whole mount), honeybee mouth parts (whole mount), honeybee wings (whole mount), honeybee worker leg-composite (whole mount), housefly mouth parts (whole mount), human blood (smear), hydra (longitudinal section), Hydrilla verticillata leaf (whole mount), leaf of winter jasmine (cross section), Lilium anther (cross section), Lilium ovary (cross section), loose connective tissue (section), nymphaea (spongy tissue) (cross section), nymphaea of aqustio stem (cross section), onion epidermis (whole mount), paddy pollen (whole mount), penicillium (whole mount), pig motor nerve (whole mount), pine leaf (cross section), pine stem (cross section), pumpkin stem (cross section), rabbit artery and vein (cross section), rabbit hyaline cartilage (section), rabbit lymph node (section), rabbit spinal cord (cross section), rabbit testis (section), silver berry scaly hair (whole mount), stomata-vicia faba leaf (whole mount), sunflower stem (cross section), terminal bud stem tip (longitudinal section), Tilia stem (cross section), young root of broad bean (cross section), Zea stem (cross section), Zea stem (longitudinal section).

Microscopes are instruments used to enhance the resolution of an object or image. Types include compound, stereo, or digital. Compound microscopes use a compound optical system with an objective lens and an eyepiece. Stereo microscopes show object depth in a three-dimensional image. Digital microscopes are used to display an image on a monitor, rather than looking through a lens. Microscopes can have monocular (one), binocular (two), or trinocular (three) eyepieces, with varying magnification abilities. Magnification ability refers to the size of an image. Resolution, also known as resolvant power, refers to the clarity of the image. The interaction between field of view (FOV), numerical aperture (NA), and working distance (WD) determines resolution. Microscopes can control magnification through a fixed focus, or through a range of adjustments. They can also utilize LED, fluorescent, and mirror light sources to help control viewing capabilities. Microscopes are widely used in education, lab research, biology, metallurgy, engineering, chemistry, manufacturing, and in the medical, forensic science, and veterinary industries.

United Scope manufactures microscopy equipment and accessories under the brand name AmScope. The company, founded in 1996, is headquartered in Irvine, CA.

These slides are awesome. Ii bought them for a microscope activity and kids were fascinated. Great amount for the price, and good quality slides too. Much better than buying at a science site.

Compared to some of microscope slides, the upper cover glass of AmScope slides are thinner so that we can see the objects through 100x objective lens clearly, certainly with the immersion oil. The typical one is "ascaris egg" we can see the development inside the eggs clearly through AmScope M500-LED microscope with 10x(1,000x) and 12.5x(1,250x,bought by ourselves) eyepieces, amazing! [2024-12-15]: I took some pictures of the slides recently. Uploaded for fun.

The wooden box of slides came in a plain white cover box, not the blue cover box with pictures as shown. I clumsily opened the box upside down and putting them back in order took a few minutes. The slides aren't numbered so you have to match the name on the slide to the list in the box to put them back in order. This may or may not be important to others. This is a Christmas gift so the recipient hasn't had a chance to check them out yet. They do appear to be quality slides. I would suggest that in the product description, a more specific description of what is on the slides would be helpful to avoid purchasing duplicate slides.

This kit contains a great selection of slides, mostly insect and plant parts. This is good for reference but, for my youngsters (11 and 13 years old) also has a great entertaining value. After running through these slides the kids quickly became experts on the operation of the microscope.
