My old mailbox post was okay, but the top portion where the actual box attached was shot. Mail carriers had tried to shove things into it that would not fit, and the box became unstable. My original post was a 4x4 pressure treated post installed in a half wood barrel filled with dirt. It worked for literally 25 years until the new mail carriers started jerking it around and bugs started chewing away at the bottom of the post. I knew I needed a new box configuration, but I did not want to do anything with cement. I live in the Sierra Nevada mountains which means I deal with feet of snow every storm. I had to take that into consideration when finding another box/post. I knew what was available via the large box stores, posts and such. The same 4x4 posts, etc. So, I started looking on Amazon for an alternative. I saw this plastic configuration that used sand to keep it sturdy. I read reviews and found nothing negative. It seemed like a very good option. So, I ordered it. Based on the product description I knew that I would need some "play sand" to fill it up for weight and security. I went to Home Depot and purchased two 50lb bags of play sand. Very cheap. The item description said it would take 70lbs to complete this set-up. It did, and I have some sand in reserve. The mailbox stand arrived in great packaging and condition. Hardware for assembly included with detailed instructions. Now, make no mistake, there is no actual mailbox included, nor any screws for installation of a mailbox. I just happened to have two very cool mailboxes I had purchased years ago stuffed up in my rafters above my garage. The width of my box fit perfectly on the horizontal post portion of this stand when I placed my mailbox onto it. I just happened to have a bunch of short Phillips head screws around. It takes 8 screws to secure a mailbox to this post. I filled the base and post with sand as directed, sat my box on top and secured it with my screws. It looks awesome!! I bought some reflective numbers at Home Depot and affixed them onto the horizontal post. I cannot be happier with this item.

This was a great find. I put it together relatively easily. All the parts and screws came with it. It’s very sturdy with the sand in bottom and post. The best part is not having to dig a hole. The true test will be during hurricane season

For 37 years, I have had to cross a busy street to get to my mailbox. Recently, due to safety concerns, our Postmaster said we could now place a mailbox on our side of the street as the mail truck comes up the street on our side before coming back around to the other side. I was going to opt out and keep crossing as I did not want to dig through ledge and removing / moving the existing mailbox post would be impossible until i came upon this NO DIG mailbox. I purchased the one without the mailbox included as i could use my box that I had just replaced. It came with all the pieces on the list of parts. It was easy to build. The play sand cost me $8.99 per 50lb bag so I purchased two as 70 lbs is required. Yes, play sand is wet so i left the bags opened overnight in the trunk of the car. It did not dry out very well but i used it to fill regardless. The funnel and holes are just perfect. These two items have most likely been modified by the company based on consumer feedback regarding holes being too small and too small of a funnel. It took about 40 minutes to fill all the while shaking the unit to make sure the sand packs down. I finished filling the 10lbs of sand into the bottom neck curbside after moving the unit in place. Everything else went great, holes lined up, screws went in easily with a power screwdriver. I also took advantage of manufacturer indents on the neck of the unit to drill and place extra screws for a more sturdy unit. I attached my own mailbox easily and the applied numbers (the big red number plate on the box in the photo is something we can purchase from our town's safety complex so I placed it there. I gave sturdiness a score of 4 because if you pull on it, it will shake but i have read many reviews that say these things make it through New England winters. The test will be our town plow, during a snowstorm, it comes by every 20 minutes due to traffic concerns on my street. I'll purchase the Simplay Barrier that they make if required for winter. Overall, very pleased with the price, item, ease of building and the look is great! And it took me three weeks to make a decision on this item after viewing other options. I thought long and hard and I'm very pleased. Don't hesitate. No digging is great! 67 year old, 5' tall, 100 lb woman can do it, you can too! UPDATE: we have had a lot of snow and ice, the plow has driven by it at least 25 times and dumped snow all over the base, the thing is super strong and standing tall. Love it.

I found the holes to pour sand into a bit annoying. Unfortunately, my local hardware warehouse store sold 50 pound bags of wet sand. It's 38 degrees outside and I live in the woods. Unless I wanted to spread out the sand to dry and wait for wildlife to deposit their handmade gifts into it, I had to deal with wet sand. I would face a similar instinctual gesture from my cat, had I spread out the sand to dry inside. I love gifts, but not these types of gifts from nature. The included funnel was useless and I was able to adapt cardboard to fill it. Assembly was otherwise okay. It was a challenge to line up the holes on the post. I feel like making the post one piece with a larger hole in the post that is then sheathed by the other half from the top would have made it easier to work with. Perhaps larger holes with screw on caps?
