The shaft sleeve adapter with step key for go-kart engines is a type of cylindrical spacer that allows you to increase the crankshaft diameter. By increasing the crankshaft diameter, this would allow using larger size wheels on smaller drive shafts. In addition, it would also allow larger pulley sizes not normally compatible with smaller diameter shafts.
Because different diameter crankshaft sizes use different keys and keyway slots, each of these adapter sets come with the correct size slot milled into the sleeve. If the standard key size differs according to shaft diameter, then the key will be stepped, fitting both shaft and sleeve.

I bought this for adapting a ⅞ tecumseh shaft to a 1" John deere pulley. I put the sleeve and key into pulley first. Very tight fit which required sanding exterior of sleeve. After i fit the sleeve inside the pulley i then slid it onto the shaft. It required a very light tap with rubber mallet. It was a nice fit! I also had to trim to length which was easily done with a cut off wheel on a grinder. Hope this helps someone as i could not find much info on this.

You have to cut it to length. Inside dia is good. Outside dia needed to be ground down. Too thick. Also, if using for predator engine, keyway needs to be widened for blade adaptor. It took a while, but now engine works great.
