Fondue pots. They conjure up images of brightly-colored forks spearing chunks of bread into a thick cheese bath. Also, enormously pendulous bell bottoms and unsightly tie-dye shirts. Not exactly the height of culinary sophistication. At least, that's what my 8-year-old self thought watching our neighbors gathering around the cheese bath.Fast forward a few decades, and here I am, holding this unbelievably beautiful Alva Nori Cast Iron Round Fondue Pot Set. This Fondue Pot is not our neighbors’ fondue pot.The Alva Nori fondue pot is a far cry from the kitschy contraptions of my parents’ youth. This is a solidly built, beautifully crafted piece of cookware. The cast iron construction feels substantial and heats evenly, while the scratch-resistant enamel coating assures easy cleanup (and a hallelujah to that). The Alva comes with eight fondue forks – perfect for a small gathering of fellow adventurous (or maybe just slightly nostalgic) friends.Fondue's origins are actually very respectable. Forget the neon-orange cheese of the 80s. This dish has a rich history, tracing back to Switzerland's mountain regions. Legend has it that resourceful farmers used fondue as a way to stretch out cheese and bread during harsh winters.Look, I'm not saying fondue is going to be the next big culinary trend. But if it were up to me, it would. As I’ve loved sukiyaki and shabu shabu (Japanese “fondues”) for many years, I now also love making all the many types of fondue, in this Alva pot.But even if you’re not going to make fondue every week or every months, for a fun and interactive dinner party with a touch of throwback charm, this fondue pot absolutely delivers. We opted for a cheese fondue (gruyere, of course), and it was phenomenal. The pot held the heat perfectly, ensuring a smooth and delicious cheese experience.Sure, there's a little bit of tongue-in-cheek amusement in bringing out the fondue pot. But the quality and design of the Alva Nori set make it a fantastic piece of cookware, perfect for a nostalgic dip into cheesy goodness (or a decadent chocolate adventure, if that's your preference). So, if you're looking for a way to add fun, adventure, sophistication, and even laughs to your next gathering, this fondue pot will surprise you with its impeccable quality and craftsmanship.

Item: Alva Nori Cast Iron Round Fondue Pot Set with 8 Fondu Forks - 2 Quart, 8 inch - Scratch Resistant Enamel - Enameled Melting Pot Warmer for Chocolate, Cheese, MeatPrice at time of order: ~$179.00Cute! Fun! Giftable! Sturdy! And...over-priced... in our opinion.I ignored the instructions, as they are basically useless. If you purchase this you probably either know how to fondue or you're figuring out with the help of Google or You-Tube. Basically, not rocket science. It works and does what it's supposed to do, though.

This is the best fondue pot you will ever own. It's cast iron which means it's pretty heavy, but it's sturdy and holds heat very well. I had an electric fondue pot before this, but the cable is a hassle and gets too hot for an extension cord. This was my solution. It's fantastic and since it's cast iron, you can use it for more than just fondue. It can handle the oven, open fire, coils or glass top. But I would advise to be careful with glass top stove as it's a very heavy pot.

Made in Belgium, this European product’s instructions specified burning paste to fill its burner. Fuel paste seems to be a product available only in Europe. An Amazon search for fondue-burning paste resulted in Sterno-type products popping up. However, the cans it comes in are too tall to fit in the Alva Nori fondue burner but they do fit under the fondue pot if the burner isn’t used. The fuel I went with was Swissmar F65300 Fire Gel which I found was sold on Amazon in 16-ounce bottles.I hosted a fondue dinner for friends that featured Polish Kielbasa from the town deli where we grew up. The fondue was filled ¾ of the way with cooking oil that I heated on my gas stove first and then kept hot using the fire gel-loaded Alva Nori Fondue burner. Throughout the two-hour dinner, its length due to the amount of talking, the fuel-filled burner stayed lit and kept the cooking oil hot. I don’t know how long the fire would have lasted because I eventually turned it off when I noticed we were no longer using it.The Alva Nori fondue was a hit with my guests. Toward the end of the evening, we talked about getting together again for wine and chocolate fondue sharing. Everything about this fondue, from its glass-lined cast iron pot, the cast iron pot rim, and its cast iron base, provides a quality look to the table cooker. Of the accessories in the fondue kit, the 8 fondue forks disappointed me. They were thin-shafted with small fork tines similar to the ones included with inexpensive fondues. The shaft on one of the forks had a bad weld where the manufacturer attempted to meld two small sections of shaft metal together.I’m so pleased with this fondue set that I excused the one bad fork in the kit. Fondue forks are inexpensive to replace and that is what I will do.
