Overall quality was good. However, the casting line on the lower hose connection was offset causing a leak using the factory spring clamp. I had to drain antifreeze and remove the thermostat housing again in order to replace the factory clamp with a band clamp to stop antifreeze from leaking. I also had to replace the top factory radiator hose clamp with a band clamp to stop it from leaking. Three stars may have been slightly generous. However, it did end up working.

I like that this thermostat housing is made out of metal compared to the OEM ASB plastic original. I have never been comfortable with major components that get used in engines for our cooling systems to cut back on cost. After close inspection I decided to reuse my old thermostat just because I was unsure what is the temp range for the thermostat being provided with the housing. I also purchased a better o ring for the thermostat flange. I added a small amount of appropriate gasket sealant approved for water pumps/thermostat components to avoid any leaks. My only complaint would be that there is no documentation that gives you torque specifications for the bolts used on the housing.

I have not installed this yet, but I have come here to say a couple thigs: This is a beautifully machined work of art. If appearances right out of the box mean anything, this looks close to perfect. I wish I had known of this two plastic housings ago. To answer a couple questions I had, it does come with the "O" ring, and a new thermostat and a new sending unit and retention clip. It does not include housing to manifold bolts. I have no idea if it's the correct thermostat, but it is included. Will update after install.update 1: Not so perfect after all: I have had to open the smaller passage significantly as the casting was poorly aligned and there was a significant restriction to flow. 1/2 an hour with a dremel and a file fixed that right up though. I wish I had thought to take pics.update 2: So, the honeymoon is definately over. Theres a significant deviation in takeoff angle of the main tube to the upper radiator hose that causes the hose to interfere with the fan blades. I reversed the upper hose and got a bit of room that way. Other than that it seems to be solid and fully funtional. I re-torqued the bolts aftetr a heating/cooling cycle and found that they were quite loose after the engine cooled down. Other than that, I am actually happy with this so far. I have reduced my rating to 4 stars because I had to spend some time with a file and a dremel to clean up the casting musalignment at the lower bypass tube and the incorrect angle of the main upper tube. It works but it's janky. It's a solid 4 stars.

Aluminum is a great upgrade over the plastic unit. Installed in a 2009 Ranger, none of these listings say they fit a Ranger. The upper hose is clocked differently on the Rangers compared to Explorers. Fortunately, I was able to use the original thermostat outlet from the Ranger.

Out let pipe was machined to fit the wrong direction I had to use the thermostat housing outlet in order to make it work

I wish I got this the first time this went out on my mountaineer because ironically a year later I had to replace the exact part again and unfortunately I didn’t realize they even made metal ones but I’m sure glad they do because the original style one is flimsy and breaks easily! Metal is definitely the way to go and it was actually cheaper than the OE one from the parts store anyways!

it's a great idea but did not work for my ford explorer sport xls with a 4.0 the radiator hose faces the wrong direction.

Fit perfectly. Does come with thermostat. Only downside is it’s now metal and gets hot! So make sure things aren’t grounding or melting on it after a few test drives.
