The hood latch on my '98 Civic Hatchback broke a while back, and I have been using a pair of plyers to open the hood. I just recently searched for a replacement and found this gizmo. The job took about 20 minutes from start to finish. I used a couple of panel removing tools, a pipe cutter, and a pair of tin snippers. The pipe cutter was used to cut a clean border at the base of the original latch lever, so it doesn't look janky (even though you won't see that part once you put the panel back on). The tin cutter was not the best tool for the job. If you have a pair of wire cutters, that would be more suitable for the task. That is why it took so long to complete the replacement.I like this product because it uses two little hex bolts to secure the aluminum latch lever. I think it'll hold up better with the additional screw to securely fasten it to the rod. A great product!

Hex hole for allen key on set screw stripped when trying to reverse it out to adjust hood release cable tension. Had to order a replacement because I'm going to have to bust this one to get it off. Car's undrivable now because the hood latch won't close until the re-repair is successful. Foul language used during initial repair attempt omitted from review. You're welcome.

Be sure you have a Dremel or similar handy, since you're going to have to grind away the plastic of the original latch to attach this item to the rod.
