These tennis shoes are fantastic! The wider toe box provides a comfortable fit, and the support is excellent—perfect for long walks or hitting the trails. They’re also super stylish, with great color options that help hide dirt, so they stay looking fresh even after outdoor adventures. I’ve already noticed an improvement in my leg and ankle pain since wearing them, and I get compliments on them all the time. Highly recommend for both comfort and style!

I love these trail running shoes. I hike a lot of very steep hills. These shoes have a very good gripping soul that will not let you slide. They are super comfortable. They breathe well and are water proof. I had an old pair wear out after years of hiking. I had to get the same pair again.

I’ve been running in Altra’s Torin 5 for the last couple of years (finding pairs on Amazon or eBay). However when it came time to change my running shoe, there were no Torin 5s in my size to be found. I decided to give the Lone Peak 8 a try. It’s more cushioned than the Torin 5 (mid vs low) but both have 0mm heel-to-toe drop. The stack height of the Lone Peak is larger than the Torin 5, so I was concerned how that would affect my runs. I’m happy to report that I’ve done 2 runs in these shoes, and they were very comfortable and felt similar to the Torin 5s. The Lone Peaks are larger- I wear a size 8 in running shoes and these shoes feel bigger. I’m sure I’ll appreciate it on those very warm running days. So far, the larger size hasn’t made me stumble at all. I’ll be taking these shoes trail running when the weather dries up, but they’re doing just fine on asphalt and gravel for 7-8 mile runs. They’re comfortable, light, and grip the road. I don’t care too much about style, but the blue ones are a pleasant color. I’ll know more about the quality after a couple months.

The latest Altra trail shoes are a game-changer for anyone who values comfort and performance. One standout feature is the incredibly roomy toe box, which allows your toes to splay naturally. Whether you’re on a quick jog or a long-distance trek, this design significantly reduces foot fatigue and discomfort. But the real surprise is their superior grip on the trail. The traction is remarkable, providing confidence on uneven, muddy, or rocky terrain. These shoes excel at keeping you stable, even on tricky downhills or wet surfaces.

Wide toe box and zero drop from heel to toe. These shoes don’t squish my toes and I can walk for hours without pain in my feet. Best hiking shoes I’ve had in a long time.

Love, love, love my Altras! No break-in time, comfy from the get go! Great tread for traction, roomy toes box, flexible sole for long distance hiking and comfort. Don’t even have to think about my feet when I put these on they are so freeing. They are holding up incredibly well, I’ve already put tons of miles on them other than the dirt they still look new.

The wide toe box really makes these shoes extremely comfortable for me. I was able to fix my custom orthotics into them without them feeling too tight. I purchased the "Taupe" colour...doesn't sound like they'd be cute, but they are!

took it on a couple hikes so can't say how will hold up with a lot of usage, but so far it's like the altras I've had before: LOVE THEM. hiking shoes, so the sole is not super soft 'foamy' on the foot, it's sturdier. I also used it a bit in town, still felt good (I prefer to use my running sltra shoes for pavement walks though). So far I found altras to be perfectly roomy toe box, without compromising the sole and other features meant for the specific sport/activity, which you cannot have with a barefoot shoe (which are also cool, but don't want to wear them always). So toe-shaped, but not barefoot (you won't feel the ground). best of both worlds

I have my lone peak 5s from years ago ( but i got them 1/2 size too small because they looked big in width). But they have worn well. So, I took a chance on these lone peak 8s and they did not disappoint. Excellent true fit; I got the women’s 10. Perfect cushion with some flexibility and the wide toe box. I liked the color blue and the material. I wore them right out of the box on a lengthy day trip to an amusement park and after-rain hike. Can’t wait to feel them on a run. They do have improved lugs compared the lone peak 5 which had awful traction. Very happy.

I have been trying to go to a barefoot shoe for working out. The Altra has a zero drop, meaning that it is flat from front to back rather than having a higher heel area and then dropping lower in the front of the shoe. This is a good thing. It makes your foot strike the ground more in the center of the foot instead of right on the heel - as you would normally walk barefoot. This is better for your knees and hips and your posture in general. It also has a wider toe box, giving your toes room to move, letting you naturally work the muscles in your feet and legs. Also good! The Altra is supposed to have some minimal cushioning in the heel and mid foot area where as most barefoot shoes have no cushioning at all. So I thought this might be a good transition shoe.I bought a size 7, which is my normal size, but my toes hit the end of the shoes. That doesn't work, so I bought the 7.5 size here on Amazon. I chose the gray/black color which I didn't really like, but most of the other color combos were garish. I want a shoe I can wear with any other color, so I usually buy all black shoes. The gray is very blue and the green on the bottom gives the whole thing a teal overcast, which I don't like, but that is not why I will be returning these shoes. The 7.5 is much bigger than the 7. I wanted a wide toe box, but this one is so large my feet feel like they are swimming in them. There is a lot of lateral movement on the front part of the foot. Also, I thought that these would be made of better materials than the cheap Whitins I bought on Amazon, but they both seem to be mostly plastic-ish materials. I actually like the mesh of the Whitins better. The Whitins are tighter through the mid foot, only expanding at the toe. The Altras begin to widen further back, hence the extra movement. The amount of padding in the two is very similar. There is a little more cushion in the Altra, but the Whitins are not uncomfortable and the goal is to get to a shoe with no extra padding. The Altra Lone Peak does state that it is a running/trail shoe, and it has big lugs on the bottom for hiking, the Whitins do not. They are just running shoes which would definitely not be the first choice for a hike, but I bought both pairs of these for cardio workouts, not hiking. Overall, the Whitin is a better fitting, better looking shoe and less than half the price. The best thing about the Altras is those shoestrings, but I think they'd look a lot better on my whitins! All joking aside, I think I will buy another pair of the Whitins.
