Pluses:Convenient size, clear screen. Really like the hinge design that permits it to lie flat. My old Radio Shack portable had flexible plastic hinges that wouldn't do that.Minuses:Could use a dap of light paint on the dial pointer for lower light situations. The lid latch on mine was so tight that I could only open it with a small flat blade screw driver as a lever. Impossible to open with a thumb nail. Used a little ignition file to remove some of the lid latch projection until it latches but can be easily opened by hand.

The pocket Digital Multimeter (EM3082) is compact and handy for travel or just keeping around in a service kit as an extra. The particular unit I received has very good DC accuracy compared to its specification, being only off by about 2 in the least significant digit at 15VDC. However, each unit will different.Unfortunately one of the two LR44 batteries has a plastic tab from the factory to prevent accidental use. After removing the two screws on the back, popping out the DVM from the case, and removing the plastic tab it still did not operate. I had to remove the batteries and bend the flimsy contacts a bit so that they would make contact. Only time will tell how long they last, but it should not be so difficult.A small quibble is that the function pointer on the dial is essentially illegible, being slightly raised plastic black on black. A touch of white paint is in order.

I needed a less expensive, more expendable equivalent to my similar Radio Shack model. This meter works just fine in the field so I don't have to risk my nicer unit getting rained on or lost. Reasonably accurate, more accurate than your average components are. Pay attention to how the probes and wires are packed in there when you first open it, because there isn't much room for error to repack them when you want to close the thing.

Nice small meter, easy to carry with other tools as it closes shut.my old one broke after 5 years and I wanted one with auto shut-off, so glad they still make this style.

The first thing you need to do when you receive this multimeter is remove the plastic keeping the batteries from making contact. It is best to open the case as if you are going to use it, then remove the two #1 Phillips screws. Remove the plastic tab and put the back back on.The meter itself is stable (I've seen some reviews that say otherwise), it matches readings from one of my Flukes, and it seems to work great. I haven't tried every setting, but it worked well for everything I need it to do. I didn't buy it for any serious work, but rather a meter that is easy to keep in a travel bag or glove box.In terms of ease of use, if you know how to use a multimeter, there is no reason to look at the instructions that came with it.There are three things that I think could be better: first, I added a little silver Sharpie to the little arrow on the mode selector to make it easier to read. Second, I am a little concerned about how the hinges for the top cover work. I feel like they may be the weak link in the system and may break. Time will tell. The final thing is that there is a little clip for the test leads. It too feels a little cheaply made. However, this isn't going to be my every-day meter, so it should all be fine.Oh, yeah... how do you beat that price!?

I'm replacing an old Radio Shack pocket meter that recently gave out with this one. The wire leads a way too short for the meter to be useful. In order to get a straight view of the meter you have to hold it, and one of the probes in one hand, and the other probe in your other hand. The tone for the continuity test can just barely heard if you hold it close to your head. I wish Radio Shack still made my old meter.

I ordered this multimeter on August 30th and it arrived promptly. I took it out of the box and read the manual. After that I turned it on and tried it on a couple of electrical items and tested some batteries. It worked perfect so I shut it off and put it in my toolbox. I needed to use it today so I got it out and turned it on. But nothing happened. After trying many solutions I had to face the fact it was dead. Granted, the unit was not expensive but it should last for many hours of use, not 30 minutes. Since the return window is now closed that's $20 going in the trash.
