Picks up dust and shakes out just like my mother's dust mop from the 50s. I did hand wash the mop ( read the instructions) and it fluffed up and picks up even better. I love the wood handle, the weight is perfect and it makes it easy to shake out. There was a rough spot on the wood that I knew sandpaper would fix easily but I did call Sladust to ask if it would work. She said that sand paper would smooth it out but if I could not fix it then she would send a new handle. She said that they were having a hard time getting a supplier for the wood handles. I hope they can continue to supply wood handles. Oh, a minute of fine sandpaper smooth out the rough spots.

As a child I remember my mother using a mop with multicolored yarn that she would take outside to shake off so I decided to look for one. At first, I was a bit put off by the price but I have to tell you it’s so so worth it! It has a great quality full mop head. Don’t be discouraged when it’s first out of the box, the yarns loosen with use. The mop comes with a sturdy wooden mop handle. As soon as I used it I was amazed at how effortlessly it picked up dust and debris. Just mop it into a pile for easy vacuuming. The mop head also angles all the way down making dusting under furniture a breeze. With hardwood floors and two cats this mop makes it so easy to clean and keep clean! Throw on top that it’s made in the USA. Definitely worth it!

I've spent untold $$ on all manner of dusters, dust mops, swiffers, and the like and all were worthless. This simple tool slays them all. It does not push dust and cat hair around, it attracts and holds onto it until shaken out.Follow the instruction supplied. Lightly spritz the mop with a bit of plain water to make the yarn fibers expand and set it aside for a day. It will be dry and relaxed.I purposely bought the wood pole version because I had all of the magic poles I can stand. I am well pleased and I am an old hard so-and-so who is tough to please.Thrilled to find American made quality. Yes, it is pricey when compared to the imported junk, but this one works well beyond any expectation. I am ordering a second head today.

We recently installed hardwood in 80% of our home. I reviewed the pros and cons of many products to find the best cleaners for our beautiful new floors. I love this mop. The head is 100% natural wool so it's actually good for your floors. You can wash it, and line dry it and it actually gets better with age. I dust my floors , my furniture, my walls and ceilings and baseboards. Its fast and easy and works like a charm. Use it then go outside and with a couple of quick shakes the dust is gone. If you have debris on your floor a broom and a dust pan is still you go to item.

[Based on feedback from the maker I've added an update at the end of my review]For the most part I like this mop a lot. I try to buy and support small American business whenever it’s possible, which isn’t that often these days. I like things made out of local, renewable, natural materials that don’t feel they have to be trendy. In this case I’m not buying a mop to be trendy; I’m buying it to dust my floors.I already have a closet full of mops and vacuum cleaners too. They are all fine for what they are meant to do. But for my home, which has all hardwood floors and is in the middle of the dusty desert, every one of them is a chore to use, even the rechargeable vacs, because they either need to be dampened, or plugged in or have the receptacle emptied. I was after something I could simply grab each and every morning and give all of the floors a quick dust mopping, then shake the mop out and go on with my day. Even the dry mops that janitors use didn’t quite fit the bill because of their shape they have to be “aimed”. The Sta-Dust is something I can literally just push/pull/swirl in any direction … push it under cabinets and furniture, rub it along the baseboards, etc. and I’m done with it.So those are the positives. But I do have a few disappointments. I won’t include that it’s not cheap because I don’t mind paying for quality and I am the one who made the choice to pop for it. No, the little idiosyncrasies are just small things that I would think that a company who has been making the same product since 1909 could have figured out.WHAT ARE THE NEGATIVES?Things like the hanging hole in the handle. I should mention I purposely chose the natural wood handle over the newer metal style because I find it easier to hold and (as some people have mentioned) it won’t bend or break if I rap the mop against the side of the house to shake it off. But when the handle is screwed in properly the hanging hole doesn’t line up with a screw, nail or hook in the wall. See the photo I attached. It is about 45 degrees off-center and because the head of the mop doesn’t twist if I do hang it using the hole the mop doesn’t lie flat against the wall. Gee, after 107 years you would think they would have figured that out. [See update below]And on the subject of hanging the mop, logic says that when you hang it the mop would lie flat against the wall or swivel to a vertical position. But no, the mop hangs with the head at a 90 degree angle to the wall so it sticks out about a foot … easy to trip on and if you hang it in a closet as I do it takes up a lot of valuable space. One minor quibble is that almost 100% of the mop is natural materials … wood, metal, wool EXCEPT the connector between the handle and the mop head which is made of plastic. Time will tell how long that piece lasts before it cracks but why cut corners on that one tiny part when you make everything else so well? [See update below]The last thing, and unfortunately for Sta-Dust company lost them a full rating point, is that the actual usable cloth dusting area is no more than 14-15” wide over a 12" metal frame. Everything the manufacturer claims says it is 18” and that’s a big difference. I was really looking forward to a full 18” width and not only was I disappointed when I got it but I feel I was misled. They've been making this product for 107 years, why do they feel the need to play games with reality? That extra few inches translates to just that much more work for me, the user, when I do my daily dusting. If I had known how small this is I would have bought their Wooly Mammoth version which claims to be 24” wide. [See update below][UPDATE] the manufacturer has commented that the plastic piece that connects the handle to the mop will be replaced by them if it ever breaks. Based on that I no longer consider the construction of the piece a negative. They also have a fix for the hanging hole which is to tie a piece of string through the hole to help make the mop hang straight. I tried it and it works. Finally, they say that over time the mop will get fluffier and eventually stretch out to the claimed 18". That's a long way to stretch but I'll give it some time and report back later if it really expands that much. After seeing the mop I still think it is smaller than I expected and wish I had opted for the Wooly Mammoth. That's something you also may want to consider if you have a large area to mop on a regular basis.
