I am rewriting my review and giving a positive where I gave a negative before. These strings are complicated. Other strings you can put on your cello and play right now, but not these. They are very, very bright to the point of being difficult to play... I mentioned in my former review that they squeak. They squeak when you put them on, and they squeak the day after. However, all strings dull down with time, and these do too... essentially, they play in and become manageable. I've had them on my "outdoor" cello for a week, and they have settled down to where I can play them fairly well, though I'm still hoping they will settle more. They do leave a residue on your fingers and cello when you first play them, which is weird and not good. I played them a couple hours last night and wasn't dirty when I finished, so the residue doesn't last forever. They are unforgiving of any technical error in bowing... I find that a week in, they are manageable if I'm very careful to bow very cleanly, which is sort of a good thing. They are VERY inexpensive, which is great. I played gigs forty years ago that paid about the same money as gigs do these days, so it would seem that musician pay has not gone up with the times, but expenses certainly have, so it's nice to have a cheap alternative. If you have only one cello, then these would be a challenge to live with, because you will squeak and squawk for several days after installing these...easier to install on a second cello and let them sit a couple weeks to settle in.

Amateur cello player here, but the strings seem decent quality for my student electric cello.

This came timely, and so far so good. My daughter is a student cello player and had popped her C string. We decided to replace them all. The price is GREAT and I am not seeing a big difference in sound quality versus the $60 plus dollar for the :highend" strings. I feel like they are high end quality for a reasonable price.

When these strings are labeled "practice," they are not kidding. While these strings are quite cheap and affordable--it shows. One could have an excellent bow and it would not redeem the vague raspy tone from these strings. They are able to be tuned and played barely, that is the standard these strings meet but it is not surprising given the price. I'd recommend Prelude strings as an alternative budget option for a beginning student.
