For the price they work I guess. What these are for is if you need to drill a couple holes and don’t want to spend money on a decent step bit.I was able to drill two holes in stainless and almost two in sheet steel before one stopped cutting in sheet steel. Went to the other narrow bit with more steps on it and was able to complete the hole, but immediately I felt like it wasn’t as sharp as the first. I never tried the big triangle one. What was weird is it cut the stainless like butter and seemed to quit on the sheet steel. Maybe the two stainless holes dulled it, but that doesn’t explain the second not really cutting the sheet steel without some effort. Also the coating wore off pretty quick.Lesson here is just because something looks like something else that doesn’t mean it is the same. For cheap step bits I still like HF and I have never owned a serious high dollar quality step bit so I can’t comment on those.3 stars for me meaning average.

Useful to have, could replace many individual bits when drilling thinner metal sheets.

These are really good. Cut through aluminum 1/2" thick like butter. I drilled a 1/4" plate steel piece with the same results. Remember to add oil to keep them sharp longer. I give 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Using these is much easier than a single drill bit of one diameter. For use in a hand drill or heavy larger drill press. Particularly for softer materials I can use a chuck with a handle to open a much smaller pilot hole by hand into that finished ID. The steps tell you when you've reached the right diameter. I have several of these already, but they're in other tool boxes and so convenient I purchased some more. So useful I might even get a few more so I never have to spend hours trying to find one!

I needed to make a 3/4" hole in an electrical box and couldn't find my 3/4 hole saw so I bought these thinking that they'd be useful for other things too. Yeah, no. Getting any of them to start cutting on the steel box, even with a punch mark, was a struggle. When I did, the first one stopped cutting at all while transitioning from 3/8" to 7/16". No matter what I did it just would not drill any deeper (yes, the box was empty and deep enough) so I switched to one of the others. It too quickly dulled and refused to drill the 7/16" hole. I tried the third at that point, not expecting good results, and it too dulled, got hot, and refused to drill the 7/16" hole. No, the box is not some wild super steel, just a plain old steel waterproof electrical box. What a waste of money these were!

I have fallen in love with this style of drill bit. These work especially well in metal. Heavy oil well drill stem is thick and tough... (gate posts) not too tough for these bits. Shipping container needed holes for hanging heavy items on the inside. Perfect for making right size bolt holes. Neat and clean. So versatile for drilling in many materials.
