I'm a retired radio engineer, but I still do a fair bit of recording - live concerts, choral groups, voice over, some program production. I've wanted something decent for listening to recordings in an unused room at home. Not a lot of room available... I had a small amp that I bought from a supplier in Ohio, tried that, and didn't like the sound. It simply couldn't handle the transients at a moderately high level without breaking up. I can't afford the high end stuff...So I went looking and found this amp. Reading Bob P.'s review, I decided to take a chance. I'm glad that I did. The sound was significantly better than the previous amp, clearer, but not quite what I was looking for. I tried three pairs of speakers before I decided to use a pair of KEF C35 speakers. While the sound was good, it was just a little "off." "Boxy" was a good description. So I decided to do the suggest upgrade to the O275GPZ op amp chips, and ordered from a vendor here on Amazon. The cost was $26 and change for two Analog Devices chips (I avoid off brand chips) , but it made a world of difference. Well worth the extra money. The amp is easy to open (2.5mm hex key), and as noted the chips are socketed so easy to swap out. I was pleased to see that they are high-reliability sockets, not cheap ones.Files played through a 4th Generation Focusrite 2i2. Not Benchmark grade, but clean.

I originally purchased the AIYIMA A07 in 2021, and it served me incredibly well for a variety of applications. After using it for several years and loving the sound quality and performance, I recently decided to purchase another one in August 2024. It’s a testament to how much I enjoyed my first A07.The build quality is fantastic, and the compact design makes it easy to fit into any setup. The sound quality is outstanding—clean, natural, and full-bodied. The bass is tight and well-controlled, the mids are clear and detailed, and the highs are crisp without being harsh. It's the perfect balance of performance and affordability.Whether you're using it for a small desktop setup or a larger home audio system, the A07 provides plenty of power, and it sounds amazing. If you’re looking for an affordable amplifier that delivers exceptional sound, I highly recommend the AIYIMA A07. You won't be disappointed!

Yes, there is a difference between peak and average power. Audio is not a continuous load. It's important to be able to support the peaks. The performance is well documented for various power supplies and loads. Average power is largely a thermal issue. Class D amps are dramatically more efficient, but there is a limit to how much heat a compact package can dissipate This is probably about as much clean power as can be obtained in this size without external heat fins or active cooling.Internal components are great. The control knob is nice and firm. They did not skimp on the inductors.I did have an issue with the unit being slow and irregular when turning on. Things happen. Intermittent problems are hard to catch and can easily get by QC. Customer service responded in less than a day and was great.Very happy. I also bought a BT version and will get more of this brand if the need arises.Simple, clean, quiet performance!

Running Q Acoustics 5010 on my desktop from my streamer. Amp is only set at 9 o'clock and it is super loud. Having a proper on/off switch is great too. Highly recommended.

Oh wow! This amp arrived today and as soon as I hooked it up to my Yamaha NS10M Studio speakers and played a song I’ve been working on with a friend, the sound blew me away! I have been recording with these speakers since the early 90s, and they have never sounded anywhere near as nice as this before. I have switched amps before, although have never experienced this much of an improvement in audio quality before. It’s hard to believe they’re even the same speakers. The bass especially is a lot stronger. Highly recommended!

My original review is below.======UPDATE: August 23, 2023I bought my first A07 in December 2021, reviewed it January 14, 2022. This update details product changes since my first review, and since many of the other online reviews for this product. It appears that Aiyima has been keeping up with customer and reviewer comments. The latest version As of July 2023 is improved in several ways...1) The thermal issues have been mostly addressed with a larger heat sink on the TPA3255 chip. The new one runs considerably cooler.2) The bulk supply capacitors (inside) have been upped to 2200uf 50 volts from 1,000uf giving the amplifier more than double the reserve for transients and sustained bass.3) The volume control is now an Audio Taper, so that changes in loudness correspond more closely with moving the volume knob. The older Linear Taper worked fine but felt awkward when trying to set the listening volume.4) It appears the problem with fake op-amps in a few of these amplifiers has been addressed. The NE5532 chips in my latest ones all tested as genuine. Op-amp rolling is still supported, but hardly seems necessary now that we can trust their stock chips.5) The output filters have been reworked, using better grade capacitors and a slightly different layout.Listening test:Yes, this is a better amplifier than the initial version. The frequent observation that the older version is a bit weak on Bass no long holds true and the definition in upper mid and brightness frequencies is noticeably better. The whole thing comes off as very natural and transparent with tons of bass when needed.Recommendation:If you have one of the older A07s, you might want to consider upgrading with a new one.Upgraded to 5 stars.======The TPA3255 class D amplifier chip is well liked and used in many commercial and consumer devices, including some marketed as "high end" audio systems. However, this implementation of the TPA3255 chip is very limited. The basics...This little mini-amp checks all the boxes for "high fidelity". The sound quality is excellent beyond question. When first hooking it up I was immediately struck by it's clarity and definition. Most inexpensive amplifiers sound a bit "unfocused"... not this one. The audio quality is spot on, when operated within it's limitations. Please note: Like most of these mini-amps this one gets surprisingly LOUD... louder than you're ever likely to listen at sustained levels. So start with the volume control all the way down. The questionable...Plainly, there is no way you are getting 300 watts per channel out of this amplifier. Looking at the chip manufacturer's specs, those kinds of outputs only happen at high distortion and represent the non-destructive tolerance of the chip, not the real world performance you can expect. The THD vs power graph below, taken from the TPA3255 data sheet, shows what you can expect. Clipping begins at about 100 watts per channel on 8 ohms and 175watts per channel on 4 ohms and the distortion climbs near vertically from there. So that is this chip's practical limit. However, as implemented in the Aiyima A07 it won't even get close to the chip's limits without running into both power supply and thermal problems. So lets take a much more realistic look at what you're buying:The amplifier is supplied with a 32 volt 5 amp power supply ... that is 160 watts of power on hand. The power chart below, taken from the chip specs, shows us what we can expect at 32 volts: 60 watts into 8 ohms, 75 watts for 6 ohms and 110 watts on 4 ohms. Of course this is times 2 for stereo... so 120, 150 and 220 watts. That is not to be sniffed at... This is more than enough power for most people. But this means you will not get full power at 4 ohms because it would draw too much current and shut down the power supply. The amp will run 4 ohm speakers... but at reduced volume settings. But, even that isn't so simple. As the photos show this is a fully enclosed and unvented enclosure. Heat can only be radiated away by the shell of the enclosure itself. When pushed, this amplifier is going to run hot and it is likely that if you drive it full volume for any length of time, you will get thermal shutdowns (the chip protecting itself) especially on today's highly compressed pop music and some of the more aggressive movie sound tracks.Aiyima recommends a 48volt 10 amp supply as an upgrade. But you will still run into the thermal limits of the design long before you will sustain the 100 watt per channel output levels that promises. A better and safer upgrade would be a 36 volt 10 amp power supply.Recommendations...Aiyima needs to up their game and publish honest specifications for their amplifiers and they really need to work on their casings, to give these chips a better cooling solution. The bottom line...If you are looking for a really nice little 60 watt per channel amplifier with excellent sound quality, this is a good choice. But don't expect much more from it.I will recommend this amplifier, but I do not suggest you go over 36 volts from the power supply.

This is an amplifier that punches way above its price range and size. It is well built and looks great. It has tested very well for its technical performance (see Audiosciencereview's test report) and that is reflected in its sound performance. I am using it to drive Elac 6.2 Debuts, and it has plenty of headroom that I will never need. And I am using the 32V 5A power supply option, which means I am barely powering it to just over half of the amplifier's output potential. The amp runs very cool when driving my Elac 6.2s. I am using a Schiit Modi 3+/Magni 3+ stack to feed the amp.To take the sound to the "next level", I tried several op amps including one that was recommended by an engineer at Aiyima in a paper called "The OP Chip Can Use on AIYIMA A04 & A07". Obviously I tried the NE5532 that comes with it. This sounds great as it is. I tried the LM4562NA. This offered some improvement. I did not leave this one in long enough to characterize it, only that the sound was "better". I tried the OPA1656, which I feel actually degraded the performance. The op amp that made a significant improvement is the OP275GPZ. This is one that is recommended by the manufacturer as an op amp that offers "Better resolution, low frequency and sound field than NE5532". I found this to be very much true. I think by "sound field" they mean "sound stage" as that really did open up. There is a clear improvement in resolution. I also found the treble to be more refined which was not expected from the description from Aiyima. And it also took "boxiness" out of the vocals. I don't know if the boxiness originated from the amp or my speakers, but the 275 cleaned up the vocals and they are now simply excellent. If op amps were free, I would try some others that the paper recommends. But given that they are not, and I feel I have hit on one that yields a big improvement, I am done searching. Any others will either most likely be a step back or just offer marginal additional improvement. This is a great amp as it ships. Since the input stage op amps are socketed, you have the opportunity to "roll" them to adjust the sound to your liking as I described above. For me, I found the 275 to be a phenomenal choice.Based on my experience, I highly recommend this amp!
