Low Pressure Cast Iron Butterfly Valve - Lug Type

A butterfly valve operates in a quarter turn to control the system flow. The disc of butterfly valve acts as a door in the pipeline, it rotates around a central axis to open or close the flow of fluid or gas. Butterfly valves provide benefits like minimal pressure drop, yet, it faces challenge in throttling applications with low pressure differences and might be influenced by choked flow. There are two types of butterfly valve which is lug type and wafer type.

  • Lug type, quarter turn (90° rotation) valves
  • Bolts are threaded into holes from each side valve's mounting flange.
  • Made of cast iron
  • Manufactured according to API 609
  • Working pressure is 150 PSI
  • Generally applied in chemical, pharmaceutical, F&B industries.
  • Easy application, lesser space requirement and maintenance
butterfly valve operates with quarter turn to control fluid flow in system.

To install the butterfly valve, kindly refer to the steps below;

  1. Clean the pipe ends thoroughly to remove any debris, dirt, or contaminants that could affect the sealing of the valve.
  2. Place the valve between two pipe flanges, aligning the bolt holes on the valve's lugs with those on the flanges. Insert bolts through the holes to temporarily hold the valve in place. Install gaskets between the valve and the flanges on both sides.
  3. Gradually tighten the bolts on both sides of the valve, alternating between bolts to ensure even pressure distribution.
