About this item

  • Avoids splitting lines, makes reading current easy
  • Increases sensitivity of clamp-on probes and clamp-on meters ten times in X10 mode
  • Direct reading X1 mode
  • Voltmeter input jacks
  • Integral ground conductor and 120V, 15A capacity

The AC Line splitter model ALS-1 increases the sensitivity of clamp-on current probes and clamp-on meters. Avoiding splitting lines makes reading current easy. Simply plug the Model ALS-1 into a connector for a safe measurement. Direct readings are available. Voltmeter input jacks. Integral ground conductor. 120V, 15A capacity. There are two clamp posi- tions. Direct reading in X1 mode and user is able to avoid splitting lines which provide for enables user of a clamp meter to measure AC current on a 2-wire or 3-wire power cord to 15A. When user plugs the power. connector (2-prong or 3-prong) into the line separator, the hot/live conductor is separated from the neutral (and ground). User then simply clamps onto the Line Separator for an easy and safe measurement of current without the need to cut off the plug and separate the conductors. Two clamp positions: x1 for direct readings; x10 for actual reading multiplied by 10. Also features voltage check function. Applications: Facilitates AC current measurement from a 3-prong outlet using standard current probes where it is not possible to clamp around the current carrying conductor.

I've had this AEMC ALS-1 line splitter for a couple of years and find it very useful for measuring current draw of cord and plug connected tools and small appliances. It allows the use of a current clamp without the need to separate the power cord conductors or disassemble the equipment under test to gain access to the wiring. It will work with both two and three wire power cords with polarized and non-polarized straight or angled standard NEMA 1/15P and 5/15P plug ends and is rated for 120V/15 Amps. There are two small holes in the top of the splitter to insert test lead probe tips to read voltage directly from the hot and neutral conductors. The splitter has two different current clamp positions. The X1 position gives a direct one to one current reading on the meter. The X10 position multiplies the current ten times, which can be useful for current readings of less than 1 Amp, if your current clamp can only read 1 Amp or above. This AEMC line splitter is imported, but seems decently made overall. The black plastic housing is legibly marked with white lettering and is also non-conductive. It also seems to be fairly rugged as well, so should continue to hold up to my use for some time to come.
