I have a set of 1988 Baby Advent II speakers and the foam was rotted and the speakers were dead. I bought this kit with little hope of being able to do it but I had to try... The kit does two speakers and if you're like me you'll see one foam ring and think you have to buy another kit for the second speaker. Don't be like me. The second foam ring is in the first one. Oh. Now I get it. I was sure I would screw this up because I'm not inclined to this sort of thing. I watched a few videos and read the instructions and gave it a shot. It worked like a charm. My old speakers are back and this was exactly what these 34 year old speakers needed. If you're doubting yourself, don't. You got this.

I had a pair of Advent Baby bookshelf speakers that I had purchased in the early 1990s. For the past 10 years or so, they had sat, unused, as the foam ring had deteriorated. I found the foam surround repair kit over a year ago on Amazon, and finally ordered it last week.This weekend I started the repair process. A bit of trepidation at first, but soon got the hang of it. The process is straightforward, easy, but somewhat sticky. Patience is a true virtue as the most difficult part was removing the gasket, then the deteriorated foam. After that, the process was quite simple.My thoughts.1. Read directions before starting2. The gasket was the most difficult part of the process as it had to be carefully removed for reuse.3. Clean the speaker frame (where the gasket and old foam were attached/glued) very well. This step was the most time consuming.4. Removal of the old foam and glue on the speaker cone was easy. Just be careful. Alcohol does a fine job of dissolving the old glue. This step is easy, but requires patience.Pros: Excellent instructions, more than adequate glue.Cons: none reallyAfter installation, the speakers look brand new and a quick test proved excellent accoustics!Highly recommend!April 2024: Two years later. Still doing great!

Our new house came with a set of old Advent speakers in-wall in the living room. They'd obviously gone unused for many years, one had even been disconnected and the speaker wire buried under plaster in an adjacent wall. The foam surrounds on both were crumbling and falling apart.I considered completely replacing either the whole speaker setup, or at least the woofers. But, for the price of this kit I figured it was worth trying this first, since vintage audio components you just never know whether something new would sound better, or whether there's some magical sound quality waiting to come out.This kit may seem a bit pricey for a couple foam rings and a bottle of glue, but it's really a pretty affordable way to either repair some well-loved speakers, or, in my case to find out what I've got before investing a lot more money in replacements. The well written, step-by-step instructions they've put together for the kit are also worth quite a bit, as they make the project much simpler for anyone who hasn't done this before.Before purchasing this, I had watched a youtube video of someone doing the process, to see if it was even something I'd feel comfortable approaching. But that was some time ago, and so I was referencing the instructions every step of the way. I fretted a lot about getting things cleaned up and all the old foam off without doing any damage to the cones, but it went pretty well. I also worried about gluing things in correctly and not messing anything up. But following the process exactly as they instruct made it really pretty simple and almost effortless.The process went well and didn't take nearly as much time as I'd expected. I gave the glue plenty of time to cure between steps, and then waited about 36 hours afterwards before installing them. The speakers now work again, and I'm able to judge the sound and the setup in the room and start thinking about future upgrades without having had to throw a bunch of money at it just to get something working.

Very impressed with this product. The repair kit gave new life to my decades old Baby Advents. They sound great. Most impressive were the detailed instructions (downloaded from the Springfield speaker website). The repair process takes some time, so be patient and have a block of time (say 4 to 5 hours) available before beginning and all should go well.

I used this kit to fix a pair of Advent speakers and after the repair the speakers sound great. It is fairly easy with clear instructions included, if you need to refoam a Baby Advent I recommend it.

I am using the speakers for right and left surround ,they sound very good . I feel that I am going to enjoy them for the next fifteen years or so . I would encourage anyone to go ahead and buy the product ,as long you follow the instructions how to use it .
