I bought this for a wireless communications class. When it came time to complete the labs for this class, the reception was nonexistent. Being the inquisitive, self-sufficient, try-to-fix-it-first individual that I am... not to mention not having the time to have this unit replaced, I found that the cable had way more movement to it than I would expect. So I opened up the very solidly constructed plastic base with a hot knife. Immediately my suspicion was confirmed.The solder joint of the cable to the antenna base could not have been worse! Luckily, I was able to fix it but should not have had to.Maybe this was a one off, but the unit never worked out of the box. This manufacturer’s quality control is definitely substandard. Avoid this product if you can.

You would have to have this unit on the top floor of you abode to receive much of anything. The only option would be to use an external antenna. You will likely need an SMA adapter to do this.
