Have not used the item but it certainly did not come in the package shown on the product page! The bag it came in was leaking and we had to vacuum the house because of that. It’s now been kept outside the house with all the other gardening tools. Disappointed.

Worked like a charm!! Used them to dry my wedding flowers. Make sure to leave the flowers in for at least a week (I left mine for 3) and you will NEED at least two bags. I used a full two bags for a small bouquet and I really only put my favorite and best looking flowers in when I did it. One bag was delivered with a hole in it but I just put it in a gallon sized bag and it was fine.

I purchased this to dry flowers. I believe that because of its size (fine granules) it retains the shape and preserves the colors of almost every flower I have tried out so far. It is very easy to use and it is much better than any other product I have tried. Drying time varies, just have to be patient! Thank you for an excellent product!

This is my third order of this silica gel as I like to dry larger quantities.I don't understand the negative ratings for this product. It is fine silica, so yes, if you're not careful you'll get it all over the place. But it is perfect for drying flowers, especially more delicate ones, without squishing them. Take a look at the tiny dried bluets in my hand, the stamen are intact! And the pansies came out oerfect with hardly any loss in color.I am drying whatever I can find on wildflowers and garden flowers that will be suitable for resin art later on in the year. The fine texture of this silicate keeps the shape of the flowers intact and for the most part preserves the color as well. Only roses tend to turn brown, but that is their nature and not the silica's fault. I am very happy with this product. As for the color, the silica itself is white, but it has some light blue granules mixed in that turn a faint pink as the silica picks up moisture from the flowers. Spread onto a cookie sheet and dry in the oven at 250F for at least 5 hours to dry it out. It can be reused over and over.

I have to say I was a little skeptical about this stuff. I gave it a go and I am quite impressed. My flowers have dried exactly how I put them in the containers and didn't wilt like they normally do by doing the old fashioned hanging them upside down method.I will say, they are just as fragile as a normally dried upside down flower. . I discovered a few ways to fix that, like dipping them in wax or putting a coat of resin over them. There are really a lot of things to do with them once they dry so check Youtube and Pinterest for some cool ideas. However, the only 'downside' is that it's difficult to dry the flower with the stem and all its glory since you have to cover the entire flower with the gel. You ultimately need to trim them down to just a small stemmed flower. . which makes it difficult to arrange them in a vase later on. The best solution I found (without buying 100 pounds of this stuff to cover an entire bouquet including the stems) is to cut them down, dry them, and then buy the artificial stems. I'm new at this so there may be better alternatives out there, but the gel itself works amazingly well.

Why doesn't everyone know about this stuff!? Perfect for drying plant specimens. I've found that wildflowers are tricky since they are usually much more fragile than store-bought flowers. It dries leaves splendidly. Doesn't work too well on cactus but that's no surprise. I took apart my wedding bouquet and then hot-glued it back together once it was desiccated - the flowers still look fresh. Silica gel seems to preserve the colors of specimens well.I've followed the instructions to re-dry it when spent, and it works. It's non-toxic, but it dries out skin and make it feel weird, so use gloves when handling.I've read that silica gel does not cause silicosis, but I'm still wary since this stuff is more grainy (like sand grains with some very fine powder) than what you find in desiccant packets. I don't know enough about chemistry to know if this matters or not. I use a respirator when handling - inhaling will dry out your mucous membranes anyway.

ACTIVA's silica gel works very well for drying flowers. Because it is a fine grain, it is easy to cover the flower (or leaf), to quickly remove the water. Your are left with a dried flower that will last for years. They have included a blue indicator, that will change color as the water content of the silica increases. Then, you know when to recharge the silica gel. The one downside that is easily remedied is that it comes in a plastic bag, with twist tie in a cardboard box. You will want to get, or find, an air-tight jar or box for storing your silica gel for the long term.
